92.3 vs WKNR since 2011

Since 92.3 has come on the air they have had 0 weekday lineup changes other than changing out Fox sports radio for CBS overnight. WKNR has changed the afternoon and evenings numerous times. Now WKNR is changing again to add Mark Munch Bishop from 6pm-8pm and Greg Brinda from 8pm- whenever doing all the post game shows. I think Brinda is perfect in the role of post game host. That is where his strength lies, he can be critical of teams and he focuses on sports. Munch is horrendous as anything other than a sports update guy. I know some people like him but I can only stomach him in 2 minute intervals. We shall see how long this new WKNR lineup lasts? Thoughts?

Agreed totally with Cleveland Radio Insider. To me, WKNR is, other than Brinda's late night post-game shows, unlistenable. The station has become a cartoon character of what a sportstalk station can be. Hosts range from inexperienced, to one-sport/one-dimensional, to bafoons (everybody on RBS). But, that's just me...to each his/her own.

Can't listen to 923TheFan's morning show, Andy Baskin whines too much, Adam screams for show-biz effect, though he's certainly knowledgeable.

I've seen the Cleveland ratings too (the demos, not just 6+), and though it isn't by a huge margin, 923TheFan beats WKNR in 3 of the 4 main dayparts.

I actually try to seek out either 1540 KNR-2 or if I'm in Canton or southern Summit Country strain to hear WTIG 990 in Massillon for ESPN Radio Network. Yeah, they aren't local, but they don't act like idiots in a carnival with a microphone.

Sportstalk on WTAM, what little they have, believe it or not, sounds better than ever. Again, just my opinion.

I'm surprised they are going with Munch-he seems better suited for Sunday mornings or something-nothing against him, but his voice and constant need to tell how he is "blue collar Cleveland, ect.., one of us" just wears thin. Chances are I will still flip back and forth-I catch Grossi on the podcasts-he's the best think on KNR right now.

Remember, Munch is an office guy who does an air shift on the side.

Munch delivers with his sales work, so they let him have an air shift as a reward.

Same thing when he was at WMJI/WMMS...he was the promotions director (which was his main job) and his on-air role was icing on the cake.

Don't want to be too specific, but in July, WKNR was 12th and the Fan was 15th in the 25-54 (but both remain pretty close).

Rizzo and Kiley and Booms are the only shows that are notable ratings getters between the two stations.

And those are the 2 shows that are mostly mancave shows, with the rest being more or less straight up Xs and Os sportstalk.

WKNR can pay for Browns' rights, yet can't pay for their ratings to show up publicly in the monthly PPM book?

Not can't, won't.

GKB is in this to make money, not spend it. Why do you think they lean so heavily on interns and entry level employees to keep the fires burning.

Guys like Reghi and Roda, who were making decent coin, had abysmal ratings. Craig Karmazin wasn't getting the bang for his buck, so adios R & R.

Guys like Sabo, Fedor, Burge, and Zuppe were all interns who worked their way up the ranks. As soon as they got to the level where they wanted to be paid as actual employees...buh-bye.

Why does Munch keep getting air shifts? Because he's their ace salesman, and CK is getting 2 for the price of 1 with Mr. Bishop.

And do we need to rehash the Emmitt Golden $8 an hour fiasco?

Now granted, they did spend a bit for guys like Hooley and Grossi. (Though they did get them when they were canned by their longtime employers after controversial remarks, so perhaps at a reduced price than otherwise)

And they did pony up to get the Browns (but again they have to share with The Fan/NCX, so who knows how much of the cost is split between GKB and CBS).

Bottom line: unless there's no other way around it, Good Karma throws around nickels like man-hole covers.
