92.5 FM What's up with this station?

Anyone notice Jack lately?

Are they just testing the market to see if the average Q listener is willing to touch the dial?

Are they actually terrified to give the station a new name?

Are they just playing it safe, knowing that if numbers dont pull through, they can play any old what ever next and no one will care?

OR are they serious about re launching the station with some new creative name?

According to "don" on the SOWNY forum:

"Someone else brought up earlier that JACK is sold nationally. Rogers is trying to have their cake and eat it too by shifting CJAQ to a better positioned format without ruining the national sales strategy by dumping its potentially biggest station."

Speaking of JACK, I like the slogan used once recently by (I think) FM96 in London. "Playing what YOU want, not what WE want!"

Taking a run at Q107?

They seem to be serious about taking a run at Q107. Jeff Brown and Carly Classen could be stiff competition for Kim Mitchell. IIRC, Samantha Stevens did a fine job filling in for Joanne Wilder when she was on maternity leave.

Of course, the music is the key. Will Jack go head to head with Q107? It will also be interesting to see if Q107's multiple short commercial sets work against Jack's fewer, but longer sets.

Q has the advantage because there are alot more personalities, and they have the Hard Rock restaurant working with them.

You'd think Jack would know there's more need for radio talent than just mornings, mid day and afternoon drive (which, to Jack, ends at 6, not 7.)

There's nothing really there after 6PM to give the listener the feeling that they'll actually miss something if they switch back to Q.
