92.5 Is MOVIN

Went to the Big Freakin Deal and saw more MOVIN people and t-shirts than KBKS T-shirts. At the Pride Parade, there is MOVIN and at the fireworks and more MOVIN. They are on TV and all over town. KBKS should be ashamed.
Props to the MOVIN staff for their effort and hot station. My prediction stands: MOVIN to kill KBKS and knock off the upper end of KUBE. HOT/AC is a dead format (is KPLZ doing better than KLSY did in it...I doubt it). Nice to see something new and some passion among the staff. Love the new JACK spots on TV too. WOLF was also everywhere. There is a move afoot in this
market and the new playa's are MOVIN, JACK and WOLF. The only mistake WOLF made was to hire air-talent. Hire imaging people, good programmers and a street team and you will knock off the stations like KMPS, KBKS, KUBE and KPLZ that have too many commercials and lame talent that talk way to much. It is the new way of doing radio and it works. I know this will piss off many air-talent, but if you can track, hit the streets and are a whiz with pro-tools you will continue to make good bucks! It is old school radio with a twist.

You've got "future regional manager for large radio chain" written all over this quote!! I definitely love it when a station has a street team (shows enthusiasm); but at the same time I don't think it's going to win the war for you. If it weren't for the fact that most street teams border on sweat-shop working conditions, I would assume THAT cost would be one of the first eliminated. The number of people who contest and go to events JUST to see a station are tiny and usually massive repeat offenders; but the marketing value of BEING at an event may help recruit new people to sample the station (but the product better be good when they sample or it's a HUGE waste of time)!

All imaging and no personality is what is HURTING the Jack format in the U.S. (in Canada where it is hybrid live personality/imaging) the lifespan seems longer. So the whole "do it on the cheap" will definitely blast your career into the stratosphere when these guys read your offerings ... but I don't think that strategy will actually move the needle in the listeners' minds.

The ladies in my office listen to JACK. If someone changes the station, within a few hours it is back to JACK. There is one lady who is a KMPS partisan. But occasionally when she puts it on, within a couple of hours, someone changes it back to JACK. Prior to JACK's inception they listened to KJR-FM.

The ladies in the office are absolutely oblivious to any personality or lack thereof, musical rotation, contesting, or basically anything except the music.

I used to hear quite a lot of rotation errors on KJR-FM, same song within hours, they didn't notice or say a thing.

Just an observation...

Help us understand what you're saying. According to this, Kiss was going to be 'knocking off' KUBE.

Strike KBKS from your list. They are on fire with a new PD. The music is already more in touch and focused on knocking off KUBE.

How can Kiss be knocking off KUBE if Movin is going to "kill" Kiss?

Please tell us. :-*

Simple. Movin is designed to attack the 28-44 upper end of KUBE and KBKS, while hurting STAR and JACK a bit.

KBKS is returning to its 12-28 roots and attacking KUBE. MOVIN will kill the upper demo of KBKS, but Marcus D knows that and is growing the 12-28 core at the expense of KUBE.

Simple math dude and good programming targeting.

Movin' is going to "attack" KUBE and KBKS by playing The Pointer Sisters, Jody Watley and Chaka Khan? Most of KUBE and Kiss' audience weren't either born or potty-trained when those songs came out. That's like comparing Dick's Drive-In to The Canlis.

Kiss is a sinking ship. How are you going to grow a "12 to 28 core?" You're talking about too broad of an audience; from just entering seventh grade to married with kids. Makes no sense, either in a programming or sales sense.

Further, how do you grow a "12 to 28 core" with a morning show that sounds like it could be any of their parents? Jackie and Bender are fine people, but to think they are going to beat the 18-34 king in the T-Man is crazy.

I thought you said Kiss' music is going after KUBE? They aren't going to go after KUBE's audience very effectively by playing Daniel Powter, The Fray and Gnarls Barkley. Kiss isn't playing KUBE's top spinning records in Lil Jon, Yung joc or TI. How is Kiss going to take away KUBE's audience when they aren't even playing the same music?

This will make sense to you eventually.

Yeah sorry, I don't see early 90s chick club hits being a real threat to hard urban KUBE. Hence why I've said and will again Movin is a MOVING ON OUT in year or 2!!!!

Yeah, MOVIN 92.5 is history by Sept 2008.
just like the wolf whould be

my favorite part was when he spelled would with a 'h'...i guess it is true that you don't need a college degree to be in radio!

That's kind of a nasty snipe, don't you think? It's fairly obvious that it was a typo -- he meant should, not would. (On a QWERTY, S is fairly close to W.) He should have spell-checked it but a lot of people with college degrees don't necessarily check their work as often as they should. Cut a little slack!

or, is he saying as the wolf "should be"?

Either way, I don't think the Woof is going anywhere.

My favorite part is when he said Movin will be Movin' on out in 2008!
