92.5 K-BUC Debuts In San Antonio

This must've happened recently as a couple hours ago the flip hadn't happened yet.

I just tuned in expecting to hear WiLD, but heard K-Buc. Then I checked RadioInsight and found the post. Sounds cool so far!

She's gone Country again for the second time.

How many times K-BUC has occupied the San Antonio landscape?

1. 106.3
2. 107.5
3. 103.7
4. 95.7
and now
5. 92.5

Now Cox can flip 106.7 back to KKYX FM to crush them!!! :)

Looks like WILD was a flop, or maybe a stunt.

I wish CC would flip 105.7 to Oldies giving Cox's KONO competition!

To the people who thought Classic Country would not come back to San Antonio's FM landscape, If I placed a bet, I would be laughing all the way to the bank!!!!

:)

CC flipping 92.5 to country is no surprise. If you look at what's hot right now in SA, it's country.

Btw, Wild didn't lose much as most of it's listeners are on tuning in to 105.7 oppose to 92.5.

Any unique format targeted at the metro is wasted on that 92.5 signal, which is weak in the highest-income areas of the city.

At least this one sounds like it will have broad appeal in the ranching country where the stick is.

They may be calling it K-BUC but as far as I know the KBUC-FM calls are still at 102.1 in Raymondville down in the Valley.

Also to add to your list I believe KBUC was on AM 810 back when it was licensed to Cibolo and on AM 1310 when it was simulcast on 107.5.

Will CC go after those calls? Or will the owners of KBUC 102.1 keep them away from corporate huge a$$ companies?

Why would they need those call letters? They only get said once an hour.

I remember KNOW in Austin trying to relive the glory years long after they surrendered those iconic call letters. But if you listened carefully K-NOW's legal ID said KMOW Austin.

Correct. Checking FCC records yesterday, there were no outstanding applications for the KBUC calls, and KBUC was still at 102.1.

You're not quite there, but you're on the right track. Actually, KBUC was on 830, which was licensed to Cibolo. I believe 810 has only been KCHG, KSJL, and KYTY and has always been licensed to Somerset. The 830 license has long since been deleted. I don't know what the story behind that was, but I think it always ran Spanish-language religious as "Radio Recuerdo" and had a terrible signal.

Close, but not quite. The KBUC calls were on 98.3, which used to the 103.7 translator until it upgraded and became KBBT. KBOP-FM took the KBUC calls in the mid-90's and attempted to bring back the brand.

Looks like WILD was a flop, or maybe a stunt.

As others have mentioned, Wild remains on 105.7 and will probably be there for awhile. I also can't see Cox taking 106.7 back to classic country. If they put KKYX on the 104.9 translator, it should have no trouble crushing KBUC 92.5. That signal has never gotten much of an audience in the San Antonio metro, and I can't see that changing. However, I do agree that country makes the most sense for that stick because it puts its best signal over a rural area that has always had a history of supporting country. Country or regional Mexican are about the only formats that would have much of a chance working on it.

Assuming that translator ever makes it to the air! :D

I think what CC is trying to do is piss off Cox...
*Remember when Cox almost put top 40 on 106.7? CC starts up WiLD.
*Now Cox is saying they'll put KKYX on FM, and CC brings back KBuc.
What's next?

CC is ahead of the game. Props to them.
With that said, Cox was weak in not flipping to Top 40. Seriously Cox Radio, grow a fckn pair!

Not sure what CC is think with this move. KJ already has its hands full with KCYY. All they are doing is splitting the pie.

I was a little too young when I lived in San Antonio to remember much about the place, let alone the radio. However, my father used to always some of his good friends loved KBUC. I suspect they listened on 1310 at the time, though I suppose they might have used 106.3 at home.

I think it truly saw its better days by the time Tengalia bought it from Sigmor. I'm thinking Sigmor owned it in '77, which makes it funny that it was broadcasting from a trailer. Sigmor was an oil company and made plenty of money. I believe Sigmor still operates some Valero stores in Texas, though its empire isn't anywhere near what it once was.

Do any current broadcasters work from stuff like what you just mentioned now?

Now they're broadcasted from one huge office and feeds are just distributed around the country and modified slightly depending on the station. LOL.

Huh?

Probably the same way every other radio company operates....

Cox Radio-
KONO- Upper demos 25-54 KSMG(Magic) Younger demos 18-34-& 18-49
Y100-Youner Country demos KKYX- Older Country demos

CC-
KQXT- Older demos 18-34 & 18-49 Mix 96.1- Younger Demos 12-17 & 18-34
KJ97- Younger Country demos 18-34 92.5 KBUC- Older Country demos 18-49 & 25-54

As for 104.9 translator, construction permit was granted on 02/21/13.

So KBUC remained on 1310 when it moved from 106.3 to 107.5?

I wonder if one time KBUC was on AM 930 (not AM 830) which is also Terrell Hills COL as 106.3 was?
