92.5 leads the Country to MOVIN

Alan Burns crediting 92.5 in Seattle with taking the risk on the MOVIN format. Philly and LA follow. Expect a dozen more markets to add MOVIN by January. Sandusky staffers are assisting the launch in at least two markets, so you can
expect annoucements out of St Louis and Salt Lake at any time.

Folks, this format is the real deal. Unlike JACK or 80's or Classic Hits, MOVIN plays significant current product. It is the Bright AC version of KUBE. In Seattle it appears to be destroying the upper end of the Mainstream CHR and the lower end of JACK. It appears to have had no effect on KUBE or KPLZ as many on this Board thought would happen. I suspect once talent is added that could change.

Congrats to Mark, Lisa and the team in Bellevue for leading the nation to a new format. More MOVIN announcements coming soon. By the way, the three trend average has MOVIN number two in the market 18-34 behind KUBE, guess it wasn't a one trend phenomenon after all.

I've noticed the rotation of new or newer spins of less threatening R & B and Hip-Hop. This changes the dynamic's a little in that I expect 18-34 Women in the market to go from KUBE to Movin' 92.5. This doesn't surprise me as I now view Movin' as "KUBE Lite". What will be left for KUBE will be males and teens.

Well...their P3's+ may have less TSL because their time is also spent with Movin', but a Movin' core listener was bound to be only a fringe listener of those stations (even if they spent more time with those than other stations, it wouldn't have been much).

My bet is MOVIN's audience is made up primarily of KUBE and KBKS listeners. Cume duplication grids in the arbitron show MOVIN shares cume with the following, in order:

KBKS
KUBE
KPLZ
JACK

Based on numbers and by listening I suspect P-1 listeners of KBKS and JACK jumped ship to MOVIN. P-2 and P-3 listeners of KUBE and KPLZ made the switch. KPLZ probably got some old KLSY listeners back which offset the shift. KUBE's older end will begin to shift over time as MOVIN becomes a little more current. KUBE-LITE is a good way to describe it.

Mamma:
We haven't heard much from you since the last trend...we we're afraid the wind had been knocked out of your sails! The Movin' format, created by Alan Burns and Associates is most likely going to be around for a while. Although the format was created to help underperforming stations in a cluster; it is a flanking format not intended to be a market leader, it will probably do well in many markets for several months. My concern with your post, is that you once again state that the "Seattle Team" will be assisting other markets. Now Mamma, you know perfectly well that Alan Burns handed the "Seattle Team" the exact playlist and the first set of sweepers and promos. There is a great chance that the "Seattle Team" may now be allowed to actually write an occasional sweeper or two (recently heard this one: "We play feel good music that makes you feel good"....brilliant!), but the music, the clock, and everything else that is KQMV is 100% from the consultant. Who exactly makes up the "Seattle Team"? When KLSY was blown up all that was left was Lisa Adams and a few part-time board operators. Movin is being run without an APD, MD, airstaff, or any other personnel normally associated with a top-notch radio station.
Give 'em hell Mamma and give it your best, but don't imply that any other market in the country needs the assistance of a group of implementers!

i've worked with lisa in the past and i've heard enough about marc kaye to know that those two are the seattle team and have control of this station. i'm sure alan burns still has a say in the station, but i doubt he's the end all be all of movin 92.5.

Then why have all the airchecks and resumes for their air talent openings have gone through Burns' office for the first cut?

Biff - your reality check is right on the money. Thanks for posting it!
