92.5 THE BOX flipping formats???

The rumor is "Chucktown's New #1 for Hip-Hop" is ditching it's Urban format. Don't know how true this rumor is but some change have taken place. Afternoon drive host Tangie Larkin will no longer commute back and fourth on various days from Atlanta to Charleston. Her show will be all voicetracked from Atlanta. Weekender Divine Martino is out. She's headed to Columbus, GA where she will hold down middays at FOXIE 105/WFXE.

This very well could happen. Apex changes their formats like some people change their uniforms. I don't know what could be a good format. 101.7 is already one of the most popular stations in town even though there's never been an air staff.

95.9 will probably surge in the ratings this book because of the heavy promotion they have on Channel 5. Their other stations are doing fine.

Apex likes to compete head-on with the other stations. Would they go CHR again . Also, they could go talk. There's a load of talk shows that aren't cleared in Charleston (Dennis Miller, Ed Schultz, Laura Ingraham, and several others), and they could do a local show in the morning.

I don't know if they will, because if they do, Z-93 would be the only urban stations airing rap, and it would get a 10 rating.

We may have to wait and see. If 92.5 The Box flips what would it be to? I figured the hip hop format was doing well, better then when the station was B 92 CHR.

Now that's another topic! I know where you're going with this one considering all "CUMULUS" Urban stations have syndicated morning shows. On another note I too thought 92.5 THE BOX was doing well, especially since Apex was using it as a combo with STAR 99.7. Heck, Z93 fellout of the #1 spot 12+.

Well, like I said, seeing how they did 95.9 WIOP, I don't know if Apex can really be considered committed to anything for the long haul except 99.7 and 101.7. That station was gaining traction and they killed it. I don't see how The Box could be any different.

They tried CHR on 92.5 before and ditched it, and SX isn't doing that great. I have no idea what format they would do, either.

Good! WAY too much urban in this market. Maybe rock will come back? Probably not.

I'm hearing from the other site that Kickin' 95.9 may move to 92.5. Something else will go to 95.9.

If they've been really promoting 95.9, why would they then go and change frequencies? Why didn't they leave classic hits alone at 95.9 and launch Kickin' on 92.5?

I don't see them doing AC, too much overlap with 101.7...but who knows
The rock stations don't look like they're doing that great (except for WRFQ, who is doing alright)...I don't think there's really much of a market there.

Whatever the situation is, doesn't look like 925 The Box is long for this world...

This will be interesting to see what 95.9 switches to. Crazy that when 92.5 goes to country, they'll be 3 100kw country stations.

Apex is a local company, so they will look at the market and see what is best.

Talk is possible. There's several syndicated talk shows that don't air here. Laura Ingraham, Clark Howard (only best-ofs at WTMA), Dave Ramsey (not live on 94.3), and others plus all the second-tier shows. You could run a local afternoon show, syndicate the rest of the day, and voila. You got a talk station.

However, AC would probably be the better choice. It's amazing how 102.5 gets such high ratings (over a 6 last two books) with such boring presentation. However, they're the only station anybody plays at doctors' and dentists' offices, or any office for that matter.

Going to that format would really cut into 102.5.

You never know, Apex may pull a trick. 96 Wave? Something else? This will be very interesting to see what goes on 95.9 and 92.5. Will Kickin' add personalities?

That is crazy, 3 powerful Charleston signals with the same format. So it does look like 92.5 will soon be Kickin out The Box to country. Just by seeing the registered web address and new Facebook page. I would have figured 92.5 The Box to be around much longer, if this is true and really going to happen.

I figured two urban stations could do well in Charleston and with The Box leaning more towards hip hop. Also Charleston has had two urban ac stations for a good long while.

AC makes sense, but they've had such success with 101.7, couldn't that possibly harm Chuck?

I don't think it'll be 96wave again. They've had too many opportunities to revive it and haven't.

For crying out loud Z93 will once AGAIN be the only Urban station in Charleston. Wait until Cumulus takes over, things will really go down hill. What was wrong with THE BOX?

The Box is playing 80s and 90s hiphop (Memorial Day throwbacks) along with the recent stuff. I haven't heard any DJs on in the last 2 hours.

I believe POWER 94.3 did the same thing when they ditched the Urban format for News/Talk.

Its awful, Apex should be keeping The Box around and wait when Cumulus comes in. Its only a little over the year since 92.5 flipped to hip hop. Charleston by no means needs 3 country station. Charlotte, NC only has 2, Atlanta, GA only has 2.

We also know when Cumulus comes in they will also be taking over 96.9 The Wolf which may also go down hill. Right now 96.9 The Wolf is going all over Charleston broadcasting live from different places. New promotion for next month I believe.
