92.5 The River in Mono?

Not sure if any of you had noticed but WXRV 92.5 "The River" has been broadcasting in mono since at least last week sometime. They were still in mono since as of about 9 pm last nite (April 8). Are they doing routine maintenance or is this an issue they are trying to fix? It's one of my favorite stations to listen to and the sound quality is suffering in mono.

Maybe their stereo generator died and they had to order a new one?

As of last nite The River is still in Mono. One advantage, signal is clearer on table radios in offices and much less multipath on the highway. Imagine if Quad FM had took off in the 70s and the FCC approved Dorren Quad system was in wide use. According to Wilkpedia it added 3 more subcarriers to broadcast 4 channel Quad.

I thought the "quad" systems in the '70s just broadcast the rear speaker information out of phase, which the receiver was manufactured to send to the rear speakers. I didn't think it actually used more subcarriers.

As of tonite (April 11th) they are back in stereo. Sounding quite good too.

Eli, there were matrix quad broadcasts in mid 70s.Some on WJIB and WWEL. They played matrix vinyl. Also, King Biscuit had concerts in SQ matrix. The Dorren system got approved by FCC as Quad was fading out.
