92.5 THE RIVER VS 92.9 BOS WHICH DO YOU LIKE BETTER?

:-\ Which one do you all like better?
92.5 The River plays "Never Stop" By: Brand New Heavies, and "Reasons" By: Earth Wind and Fire?
I thought they're supposed to be (AAA) format? Those songs are considered Urban AC
Fine by me, I like both songs. Their music seems to be ?? hmmm??, Soft AAA, of what WBOS used to be in the mid to late 90s.

While WBOS 92.9 seems to play more of the Heavy stuff. :'( (Too hard on Lauro's ears) :'(

Both stations seem ok.
I was listenning to 92.9 WBOS last Saturday afternoon around just after 4pm, I could've sworn there was an Radio Host on there, it was a woman. Unless it was one of their Automatic Computerized Voiceovers, it sounded real.
For Computerized Voiceovers, they do a great job announcing a song that just played or a new one that's about to play, or promise they will be back to music in one minute. They do a great job with that. I like that service that they offer with that station. Other than that, I don't normally listen to 92.9. It's not my cup of tea.
92.5 The River seems simular but more soft. I like this one better, good variety.
I wish 92.9 can go back like that. Or combine both stations (Like WEEI is doing all around New England) Put 92.5>>onto 92.9. Have both called "The River"

Your thoughts?

Did you hear these songs on Sunday morning? They probably played during the specialty "Brunch by the River" show, which features a lot of soul, blues, funk etc.

That was probably Amy Brooks, who was a DJ on the old 'BOS and has been doing imaging for the station since earlier this year. I've noticed that her voiceovers have been much more conversational, as though she were a real DJ. Personally I wish the station would just bring her back fulltime...I've always been a fan of hers and she sounds good on the format.

I like the River better, though I'm probably not the average listener. I like that I don't recognize quite a number of the songs I hear on there. I do listen to Radio 92.9 on occasion, but 90% of the station's playlist is burned to a crisp. But they're successful enough, so I guess they know what they're doing.

Personally, I wish WBOS could strike a balance between the 2008 format and the current format. A bit more new music, unobtrusive DJs, and more interesting features/specialty shows ("Sunday Morning Over Easy" isn't so easy anymore).

No comparison....'BOS is awful, The River is an imaginatively programmed station. Unique with live, local personalities.

Yes I might have been listenning to that because it was around just after 9am Sunday morning. Regardless, it's nice to hear that music on this type of station.

It would have been interesting to see what the radio landscape would be like if 92.9 didn't shift its format back in 2008 to the current 90s based alternative-y format that they have now. Would WBCN have pulled the plug? I do prefer 92.5 over 92.9. The River is far less repetitive and features a great selection of songs.

I like WBOS better, but when they first signed on, not nearly as much. They are way more streamlined now, and sometimes playing stuff that isn't quite Alternative. Bon Jovi anyone?

As a research focused consultant who deploys auditorium music tests to determine 100% of our playlist, and implements time tested marketing strategies that have repeatedly proven themselves effective for the past 40 years, I prefer WBOS.

I used to be a WBOS fanatic. Now it's 92.5 the River hands down. No. 1 button on both cars. 92.9 is on the "B" side.

Not even close....The Rivah is much more diverse. Here's the 92.9 library: Coldplay, Nirvana, Pearl Jam and more more 90s.
The river you get the rare cuts that you dont hear anywhere else

92.5 HANDS DOWN. The River is an awesome station with great music selection. They constantly play songs where I go "wow, great pick!" The other day they busted out something by The Velvet Underground. Between it and WFNX I really don't listen to any other stations unless I'm scanning the dial. 92.5 & 101.7 that's all the presets I need.

I agree with the last three of you starting with OlderRadioGuy

Of course most radio people here are going to choose the River. They aren't jockless, they don't play to the masses. They're everything that most on this board want from radio stations. The only problem is that they don't have the mass appeal that WBOS has. Even if they weren't signally challenged in Boston, they wouldn't have the ratings that WBOS does.

Words and phrases like "diverse" and "wow, great pick" aren't what a majority of radio's listeners want. If so, AAA would be a much more viable format nationally, not just here in Boston.

Like I said before, I'm in the minority because I enjoy the music on both, but they are so opposite in what they do it's tough to compare the two. It's like asking what station do you like better: KISS 108 or WRKO?

;D Good responces everyone, I appriciate your time and good responces. ;D
I don't normally listen to this station a lot. This is one of the preset stations on my Mp3 Player. I do pass it sometimes and listen for a few minutes.
I mostly listen to 850/93.7, Mia 1430am, Mix 104.1, Magic 106.7, and WRKO 680am. Those are the main ones that I listen to a lot.
But I have to agree with most of you, 92.5 is great. It's different. If you're looking to listen to something different, good choice

If you are a fan of AAA you'll love Boston's NPR music affiliate, WUMB, whose weekday DJ lineup include two from Boston AAA commercial stations,John Laurenti and George Knight.

I thought John Laurenti was only a vacation fill-in now? As for George Knight, he does a fine job holding down the evening music mix at 7 p.m.
