92.5 WESC

Most likely due to the WMYI tower move. Jim Graham is working feverishly to get MYI moved to the WESC tower site which may have them on their back up tower/trans. Don't wanna speak to much out of turn for Jim but I'm sure he's swamped getting this done single-handledly. The backup is not on top of a mountain nor does it have HD capabilities.

does cc think that putting 102.5 on that tower will help the ratings? there was a time that 102.5 was best in the market from the tower they are on now. don't think it's a signal problem.

I wonder how long the 102.5 move will take. The move will surely help with signal across the Upstate, especially Anderson & Oconee County. There'll be a signal loss in the NC Mountains, especially in Asheville. I remember travelling throughout Asheville, where the 102.5 signal there is flawless in most parts. Even 92.5 has weak spots there and they have a full 100kw from the same tower 102.5 is going to. 102.5 will have 44kw and will be over 600 feet lower on the tower, and that much lower HAAT.

Hi! Craig is partially correct. I WAS installing the WMYI equipment at the 92.5 site. Smack in the middle of it, the WESC Hybrid Digital transmitter's tube shorted and the intermediate power amplifier completely failed and had to go back to Dallas, Texas. The 92.5 site required that all electrical power be removed a few times while electricians 98% rewired the place. Thus, the auxiliary tower site. Otherwise, we ran on the original main transmitter at the Caesar's Head tower site. WESC's Hybrid Digital transmitter is back on as of this morning and WMYI FM is transmitting from that location. I'm kinda tired. :) - Jim Graham

I'm here as Jamesb 'cause I forgot my original login information. Thought I filed it away. Musta thought wrong.

Kudos 'Grum!' I've made a career out of being partially correct. Some partial correctness has worked out better than others. But you'll have that.

Jim, how much less coverage does WMYI have in Asheville? I see the new contour map, but that is not always true in mountain areas.

Re: "The Grum Get Together". Ho-lee cow! I have almost forgotten about those days, and CERTAINLY thought no one else would remember them. 1970 and 1971. When all is said and done, those were probably the BEST people I ever worked for. Not perfect, but they sure treated me good. No custom studio furniture. They bought a Gates Solid Statesman console with 5 mixers, one Gates cart machine (yep, ONE), and two CB-77 turntables. The console was placed on an unused desk and those heavy turntables were mounted in the console's shipping box sitting on two short end tables from the lobby. 'Processing' was an old GE tube-type limiter, no "FM" limiter, MONO, and it sounded really good. 11 bays mounted on about a 300-foot tower and a Gates FM20H. Today, it seems we have all this fancy equipment and too little creativity. A lot of "water over the dam" since then. We've had 3 kids, one passed away, and have 2 grand daughters. And I've been at WSSL/WGVL for 22 years. Time flies!
Re: 102.5 coverage in Asheville. I don't know. I simply installed all of the new equipment, excluding the antenna (I don't climb), and still have a lot to do at that site. Y'all have fun!

Good one! I think partially correct is about all I do, anyway! :'(

Grum,...
You are the Best there was,
the Best there is,
and the Best there will ever be!

All those Corp Geeks can go somewhere...and Bite A Hog!

Scooter Lesley.

Thanks for the kind words, Scooter. "Bite a Hog" ;D Haven't heard or used that one in a long time. Maybe I should put it in my E-mail auto-signature! ::)
