92.7/101.1 FM

Yeah. It started off with a guy saying "If your looking arizona's old school, you gotta hike it over to Mega 104.3. Tune in Monday morning at 9:27 when we go In The Zone! In the mean time, check out this guy's IPOD I found. Started off with a U2 song, followed by Kenny Chesney, and then Boyz 2 Men as the 3rd song. In between each song the guy is teasing multiple formats that could debut Monday morning. He's teased everything from Alternative, to Country, to Jack FM. Looks like we are gonna hear a variety of all kinds of music while the stunting goes on. Interesting.

My odds for the next format:
Spanish CHR: 2:1
AAA: 3:1
Adult Alternative Rock 4:1
Hot Talk: 5:1

It's sad: I listened thru static to hear Energy; so did many others. It's safe to say no-one would do the same for any format hole in the market, unless it was a deeper niche like Chill music or something and even then I think Energy would stand to have had more listeners. Too bad the PPM ratings system wasn't out earlier, then we may have known the true extent of their audience. It's hard to believe that the Dance audience would have landlines at this point.

I sure hope it is not some mexican/spanish station. Even though I am sad Energy AZ to go I would like to see either AAA or some form of hot talk/lifestyle talk. Would be interesting if they chose the name The Mountain since Tucson has a station with the same name right around the same dial position.

Has anyone else noticed that Mega is only on 104-3 and 99-3 is broadcasting the stunting going on 92-7 and 101-1.

...and during the stunting they are telling the listeners of 99.3 to go to 104.3 for Mega. Looks like there will be a trimulcast for the new station on 92.7, 99.3 and 101.1.

Flagstaff also has 93.9 the Mountain (KMGN). KNRJ has had a translator up there (K292DF) on 93.5 (when did this change from 106.3?) If that continues, there's no way Sierra H could call the new station "The Mountain". (And even if it doesn't continue...I imagine that there's some overlap between 101.1 and 93.9's coverage area?)

Well now it certainly makes sense why they are mentioning Mega after every song! I was thoroughly confused about that until I read the newest messages in this thread.

If 99.3 becomes part of the trimulcast, it seems to imply that the format will try to target Hispanics on the West side (which is why 99.3 was so crucial for Mega before 104.3's signal upgrade.) That could mean a Spanish-language format, or some sort of English-language Rhythmic format.

in the past, i've requested 92.7 flip'n to open source radio. ..i still think it's a brilliant concept.

i want to tune-in, not knowing what to expect.

Master Control - You may be right. I would love it if we got a format like that. Getting a little bit of every kind of format would be something different, and creative. I don't think we will be seeing a spanish language format, even though I think that's the one format that they haven't teased thus far with the stunt. With Beau Duran staying on as program director, I think the possibility of it being an "Open Source" format like Master Control said is very possible. We shall all find out in about 24 hours time.

Yes and possibly some local dj's can do some mixing shows in the evening ;-) I would be open to a mixture of music and talk.

Wow. It's definitely not something I would expect CBS Radio to own.

The format is very interesting, although I don't know if the name "Open Source Radio" would work in Phoenix. Compared to the Bay Area, I don't think there are enough computer-savvy people here who know what "open source" implies.

EDIT: According to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KYCY:
"The format is primarily hot talk, with remnants of the now internet-only "all podcast" format in between shows."

Maybe it will in fact be an English-speaking music format. Maybe some flavor of alternative - Modern AC/Modern Rock hybrid, AAA, Adult Alt. Rock like The Sound in Cincinatti, Real Alternative like Indie 103.1?? We'll know soon enough :)

wonder how they're gonna ID w/ 3 signals: (Insert Station Name Here) 92.7, 99.3 and 101.1 is a mouth-full.

Arn't they supposed to turn off the 99.3 translator because of the new Kemp move-in? If so maybe they are using this oppurtunity to direct former mega listeners to 104.3 as well as grabbing attention for the 92.7 & 101.1 stations. We may not see a trimulcast.

And just where do you propose 92.7 is going to get the programming from to do "Open Source Raido"

I wonder if they went some form of alternative they would be a viable player against The Edge. Edge really has slipped as an alternative and I for one would love to hear a real alternative rather than what the edge is doing these days.

the listeners! ..hence, k-YOU radio. ..or RAIDO as you call it.

You couldn't do that, 92.7 is a translator and can't originate any programming except for one 60 second commercial per hour.... 92.7 has to be fed by another station
