92.7/ 99.3 The Beat

At 9:27 A.M., the IPOD shuffle turned off and the new 92.7 and 99.3 FM came on the air. It is called "The Beat" and they bill themselves as the only station dedicated to old-school rap. The voice-over guy from Energy started it off at 9:27 A.M. with a brief history of rap, saying it all started in New York City in 1978, 30 years ago. Goodbye Energy, hello "The Beat!"

My question is, what is going to happen to 101.1? 101.1 FM is not mentioned at all for the new station.

Great! ::)

So much for a slim hope of a different format on 101.1.

92.7 and 99.3 are translators. They are not allowed to have their own format. The programming must originate on 101.1 -- even if it's not prominently mentioned in the marketing of the station.

93.5 in Flagstaff (K292DF) was a translator for KNRJ as Energy. Does anyone know if it is still a translator for the Beat?

Yes, an acticle at allaccess.com states, "THE BEAT covers the PHOENIX metropolitan area on 92.7/99.3 and 101.1 FM and can also be heard in FLAGSTAFF and NORTHERN ARIZONA on 93.5 FM."

"I hate when I fat finger the keyboard" Let me try this again :)

Maybe The Beat is allowed to do it because they're not a powerful station. I know I've heard cursing before on the Edge 103.9.

No-not allowed and no excuse for it happening. The FCC has very strict requirements on obscene language and content. It demonstrates an oversight on the part of whoever is putting the music in the automation or on the part of the air person if it is being played live and that oversight can be very costly and troublesome if a complaint were to be filed.

I love it, not like we don't hear that language everyday anyways.. live on the edge LOL

That is the biggest load of bulls&^t I've ever heard. By your logic, those community based LPFMs would be able to air swears and dirty words all day and all night.

I just said maybe. I wasn't sure. What I do remember hearing on the Edge was them playing Panic! at the Disco's "I Write Sins Not Tragedies" with the "G_d damn door" unedited. Maybe it doesn't count as a violation since it's not one of the seven or so prohibited bad words, but other stations don't play it unedited (like Mix 96.9).

my prediction is that this station will work! i have been listening to it since monday afternoon when i found out that it was on! let me tell you i have heard nothing but good stuff! i do however have to say that the signal does kinda suck and the should do something about it, but with time they will work there way up just like there sister station mega did! give it a year before this station is what everyone is talking about!!!!!!
