92.7 is now broadcasting a Dead Carrier in MONO, and the 97.7 frequency seems to be playing the old Coutry music format. Is the country format going to stay on 97.7 perhaps?????

Okay guys, at 10.45 A.M the dead Carrier on 92.7 stopped, now I can hear a very very WEAK country music format, Its so weak though, that I cant tell if its the new Brazil signal or not. The 97.7 is still Satelite Country, and IDing as 97.7 WCLS (The Best Country Around). Wasnt the changes supposed to take place today,,, Or perhaps tommorow.... Im very scared and sorry to say, that both stations may indeed be Country formats, I could be wrong though. Ive got my fingers crossed for a Mainstream CHR Top 40 format, or at least a Decent Hot AC, but I am not Holding my breath. Chr may sound like an odd format for this market, but wouldnt that be better than trying to compete with 20 other country stations

Re: 92.7 and 97.7// Update( NUMBER 3)

Both stations are still on their old format (92.7 is still calling itself Wisdom 98!)

92.7 seems to be having engineering issues, their signal has just died on me several times. Also, the date we had been quoted for a format change from that company is November 1. The promos they had been airing said that Monday the 31st would essentially be a dead day for WSDM though.

97.7 has just plugged a "classic holiday" change...Perhaps they'll move to all Christmas for 6 weeks before really setting up a format?

I don't have airchecks from either handoff, sadly.

What format holes do these markets have? Both nearby markets already have Country, Chr, and AC stations,,,, Well, Bloomington doesnt really have an AC station at all, do they??,, not a Soft Soft Wimpy AC, like the old WTPI, and B-105.7, the offices have to listen to Default (Adult Friendly CHR), B-97, or Tripple A on 92.3. So I would definatly say that some kind of AC format is going to be on 97.7 SPENCER, and they will probably call themselves a Bloomington station, and only mention Spencer in the Legal I.Ds

Re:WHAT Format holes... are left???

On Sunday, October 30, WSDM left the air on 97.7 at 12:04 pm. They moved their signal to 92.7, which used to belong to WSKT in Spencer. WSKT took over the rights to 97.9 and WSDM took over 92.7. 92.7 made its premier broadcast for Crock 92.7 at 6:00 pm, October 31--12 hours ahead of the scheduled time. 92.7's format is now Crock--Country and Rock--and I cannot say what the station Spencer is doing with the 97.7 signal. What I can say is that, because of the changes, both stations now enjoy a much broader signal.

The 97.7 Spencer station still seems to be the same format.

Re: Article from Billboard, TH Paper

Yes, UNFORTUNATELY!!! Hmmm, reading about the "Spencer market," which only has one station in the "DMA" is entertaining. It would be nice to have something other than country...I would say almost ANYTHING OTHER THAN COUNTRY...broadcasting off the stick and over those corn fields of Owen County (By the way, I believe their "new" tower [or their old tower] has been moved to just outside of Elletsville.).

Here's a suggestion that is meant to be ridiculous:

Spencer's new radio station becomes the newest AIR AMERICA radio station in Indiana!!! BIG NEWS, BIG NEWS, BIG NEWS!!! I can already visualize the farmers marching on the station, with their pitchforks in hand, demanding Hank Williams' return to the airwaves. Meh...just a thought.

WCLS will most certainly not remain country long-term. They're even promoing a format flip.

Their old tower was a couple miles north west of Spencer. The new tower is in Monroe county, about 5-7 miles southeast of Elletsville.

WSKT Call Letters Parked

Looks like Mid-America has parked the WSKT calls on the former WMCB, 1540, in Martinsville. Of course this 500-watt daytimer just simulcasts Country 102.3 WCBK.

5-7 miles SE of Elletsville is Bloomington. According to the FCC's FM Query results, the tower is southwest of Elletsville.

Wasn't WSKT's studio on IN 46 about halfway between Bloomington and Elletsville in the mid or late '80s? I remember a radio station being there in that era and I thought it was them.

Edited by Keith Elster to mention the Tiger map.
Edited by Keith Elster on 11/01/05 10:34 PM.

Actually, I'm surprised Bloomington doesn't have an Air America station yet. That idea isn't all that far-fetched.

Re: Article from Billboard, TH Paper

Hi, Keith:

Actually, I am also surprised that a Bloomington entity hasn't brought in Air America, as well. I seriously doubt, however, that while the new tower site is closer to Bloomington, I don't believe the owner (Mid-America Radio Group) is interested in airing a progressive talk radio station. Though, I think it would definitely be an attention grabber; the question is: How long would that attention last and would that attention transfer into long-term ad sales?

As for a radio station in Ellettsville, yes, that was WSKT. For a "brief history" on this and WSKT, please, see my other, more recent post. Thanks, Keith.

AAR in Bloomington

I think AAR would work there, unless the IU folks have gotten far less liberal than they were when I lived there many years ago.

The problem is where it would go. With Tarzian still owning the one AM signal in the market, I doubt if they'd switch to AAR. They were rather conservative from what I remember from years past. I see WGCL carries Rush, Dr. Laura, and Paul Harvey so I can't see them switching to liberal talk.

Someone would have to start a new station (someone could maybe revive that old CP for AM 600?) in Bloomington or one of the FM stations in Indy would have to switch.
