I have checked out to see where the signal will reach and it shows the signal is suppose to reach up into St. Augustine, so I have turned on the radio and nothing is coming in. Will it be dead air this weekend before the launch of the new 92.7 on Monday? It will be interesting what the new format is going to be. I want to be surprised. Later!
92.7's move to Flagler County allows 93.3 to upgrade and move into Jacksonville proper as a C1.
Since 92.7 is owned by Clear Channel...I, I mean "Aloha Trust" and 93.3 is also owned by Clear Channel, I assume this is the reason for 92.7's move out of the Jacksonville metro.
As previously posted on this board, WROO was purchased by Flagler County Broadcasters in 2008, whose principals are associated with Jim Martin's Palm Beach-based Intermart company. They have an additional FM CP for the 98.7 freq at Beverly Beach and signed-on news/talk 1550 WNZF/Bunnell in Sept. 2008.
The market is under the management of a good friend and the former 20-year Punta Gorda/Port Charlotte Clear Channel DOS, Dave Ayers. Dave started his career training at the WIXY School of Broadcasting in Cleveland, moved to Tampa in 1974 and started at WPAS/Z'hills fulltime while working the swing/weekend shifts at Rounsaville's WDAE-FM for the late Ed Ripley. He ultimately became the GM and later trustee for WPAS when they went into receivership in the late 70s.
David Ayers is one of the most capable sales gurus around and a wonderful people person. His market manager stripes are well deserved, and he and Martin go back many years.
So in one year, Flagler County has become the fastest growing radio market in the U.S. From no stations, to what will ultimately become a three station micro-market. Great lifestyle to be had there, btw. Unspoiled and on the coast. Like Punta Gorda/Port Charlotte, one of the best "quality of life" locations left in FLA.
I found this piece of useful info...new callsign...WTPC is out, WROO is out....in is WBHQ...something tells me the station intends call itself Q92.7...hate rain on someone parade, but with a call sign like that its almost a give me and no I do not have an idea what the format will be.
