92.7 JILL-FM

Just thought it was worth mentioning ... I went into a Hallmark store in Mission Viejo to buy a card and they were playing on their audio JILL-FM!! Needless to say, I was shocked.. First and probably the last time I'll hear that station anywhere in public :) the cashier said they love that station.... This was around 2 pm today.

I've never seen them in the ratings, but they must make some money. To me they have always sounded like a lighter version of Jack.

I know Jill is for women, but honestly, I'm a gal and Jill makes me gag.

Haha Mimi, JILL really doesn't focus on music for females.... Here's something you might find funny, besides the fact that JILL is one of my presets in the car... About 70% of the time I channel surf to see what they're playing, it's more on the AAA side than pop. They don't play anything real obscure but they do play songs like Bohemian Like You-Dandy Warhols, You Get What You Give-New Radicals, songs like that. True that's what I found.

SRF, yeah, I think you have a point there. Truth is, I think my problem is I know too much about radio. They might have a mixed audience, but I do think they are going after women. So all of their breakers tend to make me go yuck if only because from my perspective, it's just too "chick" oriented. It's just like all those chick flicks. I look at them and go yuck too, even tho' some of them I HAVE liked...

I listen to "Jill" online, seeing as I'm not in California. Even though it's a female leaning answer to "Jack" and his clones, I really like the station.

I've heard it in my doctor's medical building in Irvine. It's always on in the blood lab.

A female friend of mine had 92.7 as a car radio preset. I believe that was in the old Lite rock days. Then when she came back for the summer from college, she still had 92.7 as a preset. But at that point it was Jill.

David posted the recent rankings for Jill. I think it was in the 50s?

Jill has never really been marketed very well. I've seen some spots on KDOC-TV from time-to-time, but that's about it. But I don't think they're in it for the money.
The group running the Jill stations wants to sell (150 million for the three stations, at last check), but no buyers.

The one thing I will say for "Jill FM" is that they probably play more songs than any other station in the L.A. market (Jack FM included) and that does keep them sounding fresh. You truly never know what you're going to hear there and that keeps it interesting... sound problems aside.

My biggest complaint is that they're usually just MEGA slow sometimes when it comes to new music. For instance they just barely started playing Leona Lewis' "Bleeding Love"... conversely though, I did hear O.A.R's "Shattered" there on the way home from work tonight. I like that you can hear pop hits from the past 30 years or so that are largely ignored these days... "Would I Lie To You" bu Charles & Eddie, for example.

Since my wife likes "Jill" I get to listen to it a lot in the car. I had thought that they were trending to more 'oldies' lately. I have heard a lot more of the older music on "Jill".

But, some of the female annoucements need to be replaced badly. After the 10th time of hearing them, it starts to grate. In particular the one that starts "Let's hang out at the Seal Beach pier..." and any of them that end with a generic "... and just listen to this next one ..."

Yes, the announcements for lack of a better term are just downright LAME most of the time... sometimes I'll just shake my head on the way home from work if I happen to hear one of the dumber ones, wondering who they were paying to come up with that one!
