92 9 loses another host

Big Jim Murray departs Atlanta for Bridgeport Conn morning show WEZN. Either Jim likes the cold or he was really getting paid poo in ATL.

By far, the best talent on The Game. This is what, the third departing host this month? Or something like that? I wish Jim well! He has great insight and knowledge and is a great person.

Huge loss for 92.9! Jim is by far the best and most entertaining host on the station. Great guy! I think all these people that are bailing realize the station isn't going anywhere! A year on the air and they still can only pull in a 0.9 share.

When CJ left the Game she was quickly replaced by Kristen but now when any of the main original weekday staff leaves they have not been replaced. They brought in Jason to change the morning show so Rick replaced Jerome in middays so they did not bring anyone new to work with Jamie. Then when Rachael left they did not fill her slot and then they started having Jim and Mitch work with Jason in the evenings but they did not really replace Mac. Now Jim is off the website but will they replace him or will Mitch just move up or will Jason just have a longer show when the hawks are off and no show when they play. Plus I see weekend fill in host Mark Rein also left. I wonder if the 24/7 live and local will soon change but they still heavily promote that.

92.9 did start off a little "heavy" on air staff wise, but sports talk bill an amazing amount verses 6+ ratings. Jim Murray's shift is going to be servery curtailed with the Hawks games. Looking father down the road, I would bet a cup of coffee, that CBS / 92.9 makes a big dollar run at the Braves contract time. So the 7 till 11 or midnight shift will not require a lot of coverage. I figure Jim's job was safe but I can understand that he would like to practice his craft on a regular bases and not be a "fill in" for play by play. He might have taken a pay cut, but he is closer to his Patriots.

IMHO Cumulus moved The Braves to 106.7 in anticipation of CBS's bid. 92.9 is "only" a Class C1 66KW but they are on the tallest FM antenna inside of I-285: 340 meters (1115 feet). 100.5 is a C2 (similar to class B) with a shorter tower height 961 ft and less power 13,500 watts.* Someone with lots of authority in New York has seen the positive cash flow of WFAN and wants duplicate it nationwide. Will CBS be successful with sports on 92.9? I would hate to bet against deep pockets and patience.

*100.5 would be an excellent signal to put All News on if Cumulus turned off the stereo.

The Braves just recently announced that they have extended the current radio deal. Although it does not say for how long, one would think that "multiyear" is going to be a 3-5 year window. They would probably have a better chance at landing the Falcons or Tech. Also let’s not forget they run NFL programming on Sundays where they are not "live and local". More could be in the works since I have also heard them doing baseball as well. With the station being still so young there is a lot of directions they could go. Here is a link to the Braves radio extention.
