92.9 the Game

Last week 92.9 announced the acquisition of the Hawks rights. A clear commitment they are in the format for the long haul. As I posted yesterday I thought their best option was to acquire the Zone for their talent and the Falcons contract.

Well Mayhem is on the streets now and whether they think Cellini is toxic or not Dimino and Shapiro won't be. I don't think Nick is long-term either, see Imus. It's a no-brainier to bring them on IMHO. I think Archer & Bell make a nice addition also to shore up there afternoons.

The biggest move they need to make though is to call the FALCONS ASAP. what can be done to break that agreement. LFM probably can't afford it and realizes the impact on Star may even be a negative. The Falcons could be entering a historic season and the station thats their home may just be an. ESPN syndicated channel with no local shows to promote the team. The Falcons need the buzz and not the one emanating from a signal that goes dark at sundown.

CBS ought to just go ahead and cut LF a check and be done with it.

The Falcons just didn't seem like a good fit for Star, they could go to 106.7 since Wes Durham does the play by play for them and GT,but Cumulus has the Braves as well so that's a no go.

Georgia Tech just announced that Wes is moving on to a TV gig and will no longer be doing GT PBP. He will continue to do Falcons PBP--no impact there. No replacement has been named by GT yet.

The problem with carrying baseball is the 160+ games on the schedule, especially into September and October (and even August preseason with the NFL). Too many conflicts with football in the fall and the NBA in the spring.

The Hawks are enough for The Game. They could go all basketball and also pick up the WNBA team, the Atlanta Dream. That all would work. No scheduling conflicts there.
