93.1 classic hits - too repetitive?

Is it just me or does the new classic hits format on 93.1 sound quite repetitive? I bet I've heard "Jack and Diane," "Small Town," "The Pina Colada Song," "Last Train to Clarksville" and a number of other songs a dozen times or more already. I was really looking forward to an oldies format returning to Knoxville, but this just is not cutting it in my opinion. I'll take the classic hits on 105.7 in Crossville or Scott Shannon's True Oldies over 93.1, hands down.

I think all three stations are repetitive honestly, but that's what commercial radio is so we just deal with it. I enjoy them all however 105.7 is passing off some classic rock as classic hits ("Highway to Hell" is not a classic hit) and True Oldies just sounds very stale. I think 93.1 is doing it right, at least musically. I still would like to hear some local jocks though.

I agree. 93.1 is WAY too repetitive. Sounds cheaply slapped together. I love Hall and Oates as much as everybody else but you can only stand to hear Rich Girl so many times before it gets old. I wish Journal would take the chance to do something cool with WNOX. They could really have some fun with this station especually knowing the fact that the old WNOX played many of these songs when they were new. There are still enough of us around that remember the old WNOX. Bring back a few old jingles. Have a really awesome sounding throwback radio station with live DJs.

I can barely pick up True Oldies but absolutely love 105.7. I think they do the best job out there. Extremely great variety. And the DJs sound exciting and keep things fresh. I grew up with WIMZ though and will always have a place in my heart for them BUT I cant stand John Boy and Billy and hearing the same 100 songs over and over. No variety on WIMZ at all. I bet you 10 bucks right now if you turn WIMZ on you ll hear either Aerosmith Skynyrd or Z Z Top. Thats about all they play anymore. But they re always number 3 or 4 in the ratings to they must be doung something right. Still though 105.7 gets my vote.

93.1 is too repetitive, but still has a better music mix than so-called classic hits 105.7 and certainly the not-funny John Boy & Billy and the same 10 songs on shuffle on 103.5.

Right now, 93.1 seems like a satellite feed. If it were live and local with some throwback jingles, a little more variety and local DJ's (Frank's great, but he's the only local it seems), it would be even better.

I just wonder if Journal has any plans to take WNOX live. Maybe get a couple of veteran DJs back. This station could be awesome in so many ways if they tried just a little. It would be fun to listen too.

Wish they'd model it after CBS's classic hits stations. All of theirs have great presentation (Sunny FM Orlando, Q105 Tampa, K-Hits Chicago, CBS FM NYC, etc.)

When you say bring a couple of Veteran Djs back, what do you mean by that? Veteran DJs that worked at WNOX back in their glory days? Or Veteran DJs who did Top 40 in Knoxville at anytime? Its been over 30 years 990 WNOX was a Top 40 Station and other than Phil Williams and maybe Jeff Jarnigan, who else is still in Radio in Knoxville? Most of the ones that appeared on WNOX back in the glory days are either no longer in radio, no longer in Knoxville or both. I was still in college when WNOX switched from Top 40 to country in 1982 and only listened to WNOX when I was driving because my car had only an AM Radio and there were no other Top 40 or Rock stations on AM at the time. When I was at home, I was usually listening Rock 104 and occasionally WOKI.

Anyone that worked Top 40 radio in Knoxville after 1983 or so wouldn't have any connection to the WNOX we all loved and remember.

If you are thinking about "top 40" jocks K town has had quite a few good ones. The whole staff at WKGN was good when I heard them in the early 1970's, WRJZ had several good years too. I never listened to 990 much except for the DR. Demento show.

When did 990 carry Dr. Demento? If I'd known, I'd have been all over that.

The only station that I recall that carried Dr. Dememto in Knoxville was WETE in the mid 70s, a year or two before they became WRJZ. Don't recall it ever being carried by WNOX!!

WKQK 94.1 in Memphis is as good a classic hits station as there is. Live and local DJ's during the daytime and Tom Kent's syndicated oldies program at night, which is just unbeatable in my opinion. We had that here in Knoxville for a while; wish we could get it back.
