93.1 KBOI?

RadioInsight has posted a story about domains being registered by Cumulus featuring "KBOI" and "931". This is truthfully long-overdue and KBOI deserves to be on a big Deer Point FM. It should help their demographics too. The Ticket will supposedly be relegated back to AM plus a translator.

But, I do wonder why they would blow up the established KTIK on 93.1 instead of the recently flipped and struggling Magic. KBOI and The Ticket are also complimentary from a sales perspective. Magic is not exactly setting the Treasure Valley on fire. I guess Boise is just a bad sports market.

I would say “look at the ratings,” but that cluster is a dumpster fire. You could flip three Cumulus FM's, and practically no one would notice. That has to be one of the company's worst markets.

I suspect Cumulus believes it could relegate KTIK to a translator and still do about the same.

I was browsing the FM dial and found KTIK broadcasting on 95.3. Additionally, I’ve heard a promo on KBOI going over the history of KBOI ending with “Coming soon KBOI will be making another change” and over the weekend while listening to KTIK on 93.1, I heard “starting January 3rd KTIK will be moving to 95.3”

All signs point to KBOI moving or simulcasting on 93.1 on January 3rd.

I've been listening this morning and i heard that too. The promo certainly makes it clear they are moving to 95.3 not just adding to it or splitting the sports programming between 95.3 and 93.1. I didn't hear any mention of 1350. You are correct about the date too.

Combine this with the previous rumor about KBOI going to 93.1 and I think the picture is pretty about what is happening.

I still think it is a mistake though. Put KBOI on 97.9.

I think they have hope for Magic 97.9. Not sure what they see but they see something magical happening.

As for the timing of switching 93.1, I’m actually surprised they aren’t stunting 93.1 with commercial-free Christmas Music to get some ears on the frequency before broadcasting KBOI. That might have to do with the fact they would be messing with “the FM home of Boise State Football” if they did that.
