93.1 The Party Shifts To Top 40

They were on the border of Rhythmic AC and CHR but now PARTY is a full blown Top 40 station. Besides the music changes they have a new night show...Billy the Kid.

So that means all the favorite radio stations (including Mix 94.1 & Hot 97.5) will play all Lady Gaga, all the time?

Yeah, how many top40 stations do we need? NOW, MIX, KLUC, HOT and now Party? I've been listening to it over the last couple days and I'm pretty sure they'll get hammered. They need to hire a PD that knows what he's doing. Didn't Clear Channel already try this 10 years ago with KISS, with the SAME PD in place?

There's no doubt about it - Vegas radio right now is big on Pop radio. Keep in mind though that Mix 94.1 sounds nothing like the other stations you mentioned as it's a Modern A/C
On the other hand, Hot 97.5 has been evolving from a Hip Hop focused Rhythmic CHR to a pure Rhythmic outlet, and is now playing records by the likes of Enrique Iglesias and Katy Perry. It's going head to head with longtime heritage Rhythmic CHR, 98.5 KLUC (which is VERRRY Pop friendly). Oh, and don't forget there's also Dance outlet 94.5 The Vibe.
As far as pure CHR, Clear Channel CHR/Pop stations tend to perform very well, especially in PPM. CC is very savyy when it comes to marketing its stations both online and with traditional media. They have the kind of resources that 104.3 Now sadly doesn't. I mean, I think KFRH sounds pretty good, but for goodness sake just look at their website and compare it with KPLV:

CHRles makes a great point. Does 104.3 even have any jocks? There is no presence of them on their website. You've got to love the Bay Area Traffic link at the bottom as well. They were a far better station under Beasley's ownership. No comparison.

Hey man, it's funny to say that Mix sounds "nothing like" Party. Take a look at both station's top 10 artists played. 5 out of the 10 are the SAME artists!

Mix:
1. Katy Perry (#3 on Party)
2. Train (#24 on party)
3. Pink (#4 on Party)
4. Linkin Park (not in top 30 on Party)
5. The Script (#21 on Party)
6. Bruno Mars (#6 on Party)
7. Cee Lo Green (#9 on Party)
8. Lifehouse (not in top 30 on Party)
9. Adele (not in top 30 on Party)
10. Lady Gaga (#2 on Party)

Party:
1. Rihanna (not in top 30 on Mix)
2. Lady Gaga (#10 on Mix)
3. Katy Perry (#1 on Mix)
4. Pink (#3 on Mix)
5. Britney Spears (not in top 30 on Mix)
6. Bruno Mars (#6 on Mix)
7. Enrique (not in top 30 on Mix)
8. Black Eyed Peas (top in top 30 on Mix)
9. Cee Lo Green (#7 on Mix)
10. Usher (not in top 30 on Mix)

Looks pretty similar to me…

You should look at
1) Mix 94.1's entire Top 30 list

And more importantly
2) Look at the older titles on KMXB

94.1 The Mix plays a lot of older titles you won't hear on CHRs (though some of these songs were big on CHR back in the day)
Goo Goo Dolls "Slide"
Dave Mathew Bands "Space Between Us"
Third Eye Blind "Jumper"
U2 "Beautiful Day"
Nelly Furtado "I'm Like A Bird"

94.1 The Mix also plays plenty of Current and Recurrents that aren't hot on CHR
Sugarland "Stuck Like Glue"
Sara Bereilles "Uncharted"
Maroon 5 "Never Gonna Leave This Bed"

Hey CHRles,

I wasn't saying they were the exact same radio station. Only suggesting that Party will pull from Mix... KLUC, NOW, and Hot.

Even if MIX is not included, I can't think of another market with 4 CHRs (pop and rhythmic combined) other than NYC.

And to think...Not all that long ago, Vegas only had one CHR....KLUC.

Oh come on guys, at least Vegas has CHRs... would you rather be in Atlanta and have supposed CHRs that actually sound hot AC? *cough*Q100 Atlanta*cough*
