93.1 to change calls from KHJQ to KCLZ

I've found that CC has applied to change the calls for 93.1 from KHJQ to KCLZ. Also found on Monday, july 3, 2006 that Sacramento Adult Hits KCCL BOSS RADIO 101.9 flipped to THE WOLF 101.9 Country. Could CC be planning on bringing back Adult Hits or possibly a Greatest Hits format to Sacramento?

According to the FCC call sign reservation system, KCLZ is assigned to a coast guard ship.

I often wonder about station's call letters and if they mean something.

As a Marketing/Promotions person, I'm always looking for quick things that stay in people's minds, especially so they'll buy the product. Yes, things that'll make mental associations, pictures they want to be known by.

I really think a station's call letters could be chosen strategically, especially for promotional purposes. When I lived in Miami, I listened constantly to WHYI, which was ripe for "WHY I listen to Y-100."

When I saw KCLZ here, 2 things came to mind:
1. Is it KC + LZ? Is it KC & The Sunshine Band meet Led Zeppelin?
Is KCLZ the station where you can "Shake Your Booty" up the "Stairway to Heaven"? And hear many more songs in between?

2. KCL looks like a chemical symbol. It's Potassium Chloride, found in medicine.
Then we have the Z leftover.
In a previous lifetime, Nytol helped you catch your Z's.
Therefore, is KCLZ the station I listen to at night,
so that like medicine with Potassium Chloride, it'll put me to sleep?

ROFL!! :D

BTW, the now defuct AM 1540 in Aptos (Santa Cruz) used the call letters KLAU
for the satellite-fed "Kool Gold" format from Phoenix...
As explained by the then-P.D. at 1540, KLAU =

KL - abbreviation for "Kool"
AU - the chemical symbol for "gold"..

Back to 93.1...
I can just imagine how the 93.1 signal will sound in Sacramento, when not
in a car listening to it. The signal is quite strong in Napa, with some spotiness
as you drive east on Highway 121, but whatta skip that signal has over
the hills!
