93.1 To Take It "Easy" After Christmas?

Notice they also registered a bunch of other common Cox domain names. I'd like to imagine they'd flip the station to some sort of AAA like they did in Richmond and San Antonio recently.

South Florida needs a rock format of some type. Yes I know ratings bite, but I think Miami is now the largest radio market without a modern rock station! Are we going to see some of the non-comms or a WPB station to pick up some of the slack?

Triple AAA in San Antonio recently flipped to Classic Rock. The station was a failure beginning. In fact, it was on the air for less than 6 month.

Love 94 enjoyed much success as a triple a before mysteriously morphing into smooth jazz. The question is, with the ethnic makep of the market starkly different than it was 20 years ago, could the format work now in SFLA? My unfamiliarity with the current SFLA makes me wholly unqualified to answer this question. Anyone wanna weigh in?

It's been hard for many operators to judge the appeal of rock in highly Hispanic markets. Likely there are several factors, only one of which is the appeal to Hispanics themselves. The real issue is whether the Hispanic influence in the market flavors musical taste.

I recall that the operator of KSCA in LA believed that it was a signal problem that kept them to a 1.1 share average. The same signal got a 6.7 in its first book as a Spanish language station. Maybe it was the format after all.
 
Cox is taking the safe route by going Soft AC. The format, being gold based, is an obvious attempt at chipping away at both Lite Fm and Magic. That is a long and very expensive trip for them to take, as both stations are very clearly defined and brilliantly programmed (especially Lite Fm). In this case and in this market, the safe route is the lazy route. But Cox is staying true to their history of not being innovative. If they really wanted to make some noise, they would do some real homework and take this station in a Latin direction which nobody's doing anywhere. Miami is the perfect market to do Latin eclectic (Latin answer to AAA). I live here and I know from personal experience that the money making 25-54 Latin community still values radio more than the white community does, but they are passionate about the non pop music that's only heard in Latin America. I also know that they aren't getting what they truly crave from the Latin stations that are on the air here because, to them, that music is boring.
