93.3 first to Christmas..at least this weekend

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too early!!!!

I heard it, too. I love Christmas music...in season, but come on, guys. This is ridiculous. No one I know of wants to hear Christmas music this early. Thanksgiving or the day after is plenty early to start it.

Looks like their duking it out with Sunny this year too, sunny has not done Christmas yet on their FM but have a webstream up, I suspect sometime in Nov we'll see sunny do Christmas music, if not all out switch.

When their regular "format" can't even crack a 3-share with that great signal, I'm not surprised 93.3 wants to escape on the sleigh ASAP.
______________

The weather is not helping their cause either. I mean, come on. Who wants to hear Christmas music when it's almost 70 degrees outside?

Two stations in New Jersey started in mid October. Within a couple of years, we'll all be hearing a "Preview Weekend" on Labor Day Weekend!
______________

Re: Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too early!!!!

Hi All.....I can't stand all of this early Christmas music. I'm all for the holiday spirit, but I tune out Sunny and 93.3 (the two stations I listen to 95% of the time) after Thanksgiving. I wish at least one of those two would stop playing continuous Christmas music. I wouldn't mind the Xmas stuff being mixed in starting at Thanksgiving and then gradually increased until it became continuous on only Christmas Eve and Day. Then fade it out until New Years. That would guarantee not losing me. I don't see how any majority (or even a solid minority) of listeners can want continuous Christmas for over a month.

If I am WBNS, I would play like 20-25% Christmas and 75-80% normal stuff... try to catch the strays from Sunny and Lite FM for the season... and ofcourse increase as you get closer.

Unfortunately...xmas music=listeners=$$$$$

What you may not realize is that Xmas music is a HUGE ratings booster for Sunny and Lite. As for the rest of us who don't like xmas music we are forced to listen elsewhere. Sunny and (I believe) Lite are doing "preview" xmas music weekends with regular music during the week.
It's a race between Lite and Sunny who will get to the xmas music first...Early bird gets the worm....Early xmas music gets the listeners.
97.1 nixed the xmas music and their ratings tanked last year. So, we'll see what the ratings say...
I do like that fact that Sunny is giving it's listeners who love xmas music the choice of listening online to nothing but xmas music while the regular stuff is still being played.
It looks like the day after Thanksgiving is the "normal" day for the flip...but with the added competition that could be at anytime.

Just a FYI!

Re: Unfortunately...xmas music=listeners=$$$$$

Look, I realize that all Christmas music gets your 35-54 female demo all warm and fuzzy..(bad pun, I know)...but as someone who has been doing this for a while, rest assured that you'll get people on the phones screaming at you for Christmas Music..rare, but it does happen..or its not ''their type'' of Christmas Music..or whatever the hell else has their panties in a wad during the holiday season..

Or, you get the woman at a remote I was running the board for one Saturday Afternoon who was sceaming..and I do mean screaming, cause I could hear this bitch in cue..at our morning guy for daring to play ''Visit from Saint Nicholson'' by Bob Rivers during morning drive..I was doubled over laughing while running the board..

I'm waiting for the P-D who decides to hold off on Christmas for a while..at least until December First or so..

Of course, finding a sales department who would sign off on that idea is like trying to find WMDs..

Some consultant somewhere is going to discover something disturbing..maybe this year, maybe next..but at some point..this All Christmas in November thing is going to blow up in somebody's face..count on it..
