93.3 makes several changes under new "ownership"

To their credit WVFJ did the best they could. Maybe WWEV did to. They all have/had limitations but so do Clear Channel stations. It's not just signal or management or budget or music selection or personalities. At the end of the day, the format has a low ceiling of real success in city after city where there are churches after churches.
And that's ok. No big deal. But even now with Praise blowing the numbers thru the roof, we never talk about that success or the huge Time Spent Listening ratio of WAOK with 1000 day 250 night playing the same stuff. Black Gospel. THAT's where the Christian audience is. Too bad WVFJ didn't get THAT on their radar first.

Good thoughts here.

One of Salem's Fish stations, 95.5 WFHM in Cleveland, carries alt Christian rock on their HD-2 channel, and streams it online and on a smartphone app. They call it AlternaFISH. It would be nice if WFSH did that here. See http://www.955thefish.com/Article.asp?id=1208584

Just a small correction from someone in WFHM's local signal area: "AlternaFISH" is not featured on WFHM's 95.5 HD2 channel. In fact, WFHM doesn't have HD and never has, as far as I can tell.

The show airs weekend nights, according to that page you linked, on the main "Fish" channel, and there is indeed the online stream.

If 95.5 does go HD, it'd be a good idea to put this on HD2, tho.

Thanks for the update. WFSH doesn't have HD, either. Since AlternaFISH is streaming 24/7, it would make sense for them to make the leap to HD unless they don't believe in the future of HD. In ATL, Salem has not one but two AMs that they could simul (WGKA and WNIV/WLTA) if 104.7 went HD.

As far as i can tell, Salem does not have HD radio anywhere. It looks like they simply dont believe in it.

This morning WVFJ had their longtime general manager on the air talking about the conversion from commercial to non-commercial for the station. He mentioned the already approved signal upgrade but mentioned expansion including downtown atlanta. He says being non commercial will allow more expansion but i thought to really add translators you had to be on the non-com band. I dont really see any applications for translators that would really help the station yet but i guess its coming.

Radio Training Network has several FM translators across the WVFJ coverage area with the closest to Atlanta being 100.1 in Morrow. In other places they have upgraded them to 250 watts and put one of their HD channels on the translator. The present 60 dBu of WVFJ reaches East Point on the northeast. The CP would give them about 3 more miles. The Morrow translator increased to 250 watts would push its 60 dBu beyond WVFJ's 60 dBu but maybe they will relocate it or maybe they can lease a HD channel of another Atlanta FM and then put a translator beyond their 60 dBu.

RTN already leases a subchannel of WNOW 105.3 in the Charlotte market to feed several translators. In Greenville, SC, they use their HD-2 to feed a bunch of translators with a Christian CHR format, and in Charleston, they feed a translator with a softer "Praise" format.

Never thought about them leasing a HD signal of another station that covers the city better. I wonder how far north they could move 100.1fm without causing problems with 100.1 Talking Rock. I did not see any applications to boost any translators to increase their coverage yet including no application to be non-commercial. I got an HD radio and wonder who would allow RTN to have J on a sub channel. WNOW in charlotte is not owned by a big radio company so maybe it would have to be Star, I would doubt they could afford CBS/Cumulus/Clear Channel/Salem (never would happen)/Radio One/Cox.

Co-worker in Manchester....

Thanks guys for the compiments (I think). First time I have posted. I could give you more insight when time allows. Rod

Rod, this is Doug Lane.....Doug Edwards on air. :) I hope you are doing well....I tried to write to the station to locate you and Chris, but never heard back from them. My email is [email protected] bless and hope to hear from you both soon! Doug

J93.3 FM in Manchester....

I remember working weekends and some afternoons at the radio station from 1995-1997. I moved into Columbus and switched to Sunny 100 and Rock 103 as Doug Edwards. The station played it extremely safe as it came to music, and I would push the limit with more progressive selections. We could have easily produced shows like "The Speed of Light" (which we simulcasted from the Joy FM in South Carolina)....Chris was an amazing music director....but we played it safe. I also worked at the Joy FM in Sarasota and New Port Richey before coming to the Manchester location to work, and the company was consistent.

I worked with amazing people and loved being there. God bless!

WVFJ is on the HD2 of WCON 9.3 Cornelia feeding a translator

the hd 2 of 102.3 WLKQ in Buford which feeds the 92.5 translator and the 99.3 feeds the Gainesville translator. then again 88.9 WMSL Athens is a JOY FM signal up there. Plus sister network His Radio has a signal that reaches Gainesville and Athens.
