93.3 Rise Guys audio

I was scanning the radio recently and stopped on 93.3, which I never listen to...and heard The Rise Guys (morning show). What is with their audio? Their show sounds like an extremely wet, tinny online stream coming from a tunnel but has a "hard" sound. I can't really describe the sound, but it is really strange. I'm not a fan of Entercom's audio processing, but none of the talking on the other stations sounds this way.

Anybody know what I'm talking about? Is this done on purpose?

That has to be the lamest show ever on radio with a room full of fat obese rednecks that think they are funny.I personally cant wait until they mess with the wrong person with their little war of the roses. They think they`re funny messing around in peoples troubled lives.I`ll be so happy to hear when FatMatt gets beat to a FAT bloody pulp by someone he has messed with.Kep it up FATSOs your time is comin`.

Your input is very refreshing to read, and I agree. TRG are absolutely tasteless. The morning show does not fit the kind of music that they play, even. 93.3 is a disaster and it is especially interesting that a company that seems to want to be "high brow" and "innovative" like Entercom doesn't try to do anything to improve it, much less allows it. Has to be one of the most pathetic properties they have. That frequency could perform so much better.

sad day for them with this war of the roses, everyone knows they copied that from 103.5KTU outta NY. KTU has been doing war of the roses forever it seems, bet its easier in NY than lil old Greenville.

I notice they still have that "sound." Can't describe it, have never heard anything like it. I wouldn't be able to handle listening to it. It sounds like they are running a stream over the air.

In the 8 years I've been here, I have never heard anything positive about 93.3. Have they ever sounded any good? I only listen occasionally just as a radio enthusiast, and they've sounded the same (bad) since Barnstable owned them. Not my kind of music, but still check it out.

93.3 does play my kind of music (Active rock), but it's so poorly programmed! They have listeners (and advertisers) as far away as Hickory & Charlotte, so you'd think this station could be given a larger market sound.

KILO 94.3 in Colorado Springs is the type of Active format that should be pursued on 93.3. Live, engaging, LOUD & HARD, very little duplication from sister WROQ & a great sound that would play well in the Upstate, as well as the larger market she serves by default (Charlotte).

Last time I checked, there's no room on an active playlist for Lenny Kravitz or The Cranberries. I blame Paige (another talentless hack...where did they dig her up from!!??) for overly feminizing the daypart.

Paige has been there since I can remember. Attracts some of the female audience. Like I said, I'm not really a fan of Active rock so I may not give a true opinion, but have listened to 93.3 and they lack true coherence and sound effortless. They recently played "Livin' On A Prayer"...Magic even plays that...

I always forget The Planet was a Clear Channel station for a while. Would be interesting to hear what it would sound like if they still owned them...for some reason, I have a feeling it wouldn't be as bad. CC did a nice job with rock on 96.7 towards the end. I listened to their classic rock blocks and it was well executed, better than WROQ or 'TPT.

Thanks carolinaradio. I was the PD for 96-7 The Buzzard and it was a great run. The classic rock days and new rock nights was a last ditch effort to save the station. 700 watts didn't stand much of a chance against the big guys. However, when used as a direct weapon, at the main competitors for the daypart, it was much more focused and had a chance. One that just wasn't meant to be.

Paige was one of first 'TPT employees back to '96. I was there from 4/97-5/02 and Paige is a sweet lady who loves her job.

Your effort for The Buzzard certainly showed through on-air Craig. I don't blame the programming, it's the signal. While it isn't as bad as it looks on paper (as I always argue), it was dwarfed against the massive signals that our market has so many of. Buzzard got around what, a little below a 2....better than now.

96.7 has potential but regardless of the format it will likely never be a big player. [broken record]Why they let it continue 3+ years with Christian AC is beyond me, with all of the resources CC has, they can do something better with little effort. That voice guy is so canned and everything sounds so loose....nobody's listening. Yes, I know they have three larger signals, have/had USC, it isn't a priority, whatever...but why not attempt to make the best of what they have to work with and try something else? They might even get over a 1 share![/broken record]

When I think of "Buzzard", 3 other stations come to mind, 100.3 in Greensboro, JRR in Orlando & MMS in Cleveland. If 96.7 had sounded REMOTELY like those three, it would have possibly killed off Planet & been a success. But it didn't and was a canned, stale product, reminiscent of WROV in Roanoke, and died.

Paige may be "nice", but her voice & overly feminized daypart is not consistent with how an active rocker should sound. Definately not in the the largest market in the state.

OK, winter book is out and 93.3 only got around a 3 and a half 12+, worst in a while. Like I said in the ratings thread, they are the second lowest rated station in the market, only the 96.7 is behind them (surprise). Unless they do exceptionally well 18-34, I can't believe no one in Bala Cynwyd is taking notice. If they want to keep The Planet, they need to fix it.

96.7's "Buzzard" might have been sub-par compared to those others because it has a limited signal that only gets metro Greenville and half of metro Spartanburg well. Due to that, they might not have gotten much funding.
