It has become a very sad market. I no longer need my FM2... Heck I barely need FM1... My presets have dwindled to:

AM:
WBAP 820
KRLD 1080
FM:
102.1 The Edge :-\
Mix 102.9
Live 105.3 Free FM (Jagger & Russ) ;D
XM: 8)
Flight 26 - Modern Hits
Fred - Classic Alternative
Ethel - Alternative Hits
Lucy - Classic Alternative Hits
Watercolors - Smooth Jazz
BPM - Dance Hits

RIP FM presets:
93.3 Merge :'(
97.1 Eagle
97.9 KZEW
102.1 Q102
106.7 K-D-L! :'(
107.5 The Oasis :'( :'(

I'm strictly an XM guy now. Can't even remember what my presets are in the car because I never use them.

FYI...since we do this about once a year...here are my presets:

AM-770, 820, 1080, 1190 (too lazy to change since "Mighty" signed off), 1310, 1360.

FM1-88.5, 88.9 (KETR,) 93.3, 94.5, 97.5 (KLAK,) 98.7

FM2-100.3, 102.1, 102.9, 103.7, 105.7, and a dummy station to pipe in XM from the FM modulator

Here's mine: 93.3 (painful to listen to Fish, and the ever raspy chain smokin' sounding Cindy Scull, but
the music has improved...slightly)
96.3 (probably to be removed - don't listen to country as much as I used too - plus I just
don't hear the good stuff thrown in every once and awhile from the 90's - there was
some great music from the Garth era that I never hear - at least in this market - ya
listening , KSCS??)
96.7 (just there in the hopes that some fine day I'll hear something good)
97.5 (actually some good stuff on KLAK at times, but unfortunately, very
predictable, and full of sappy "safe" love songs. A good revamp of
their library into more 80's and 90's material, along with picking up the pace to
an "almost" rock/pop would do them good I think - like the old Mix)
98.7 (KLUV is always a good middle ground station for adults, seniors, and kids riding)
99.5 (rarely listen but will switch over occasionally - never really hear anything I
like though. Another one that will probably be removed)
100.3 (yeah, I hear the same songs over and over, but when I want to get my
80's and 90's rock/pop fix, there they are)
101.1 (as long as Christopher Hackett is not on, I can get my classical fix every once
in awhile. But Hackett's voice grates my nerves. Guy sounds like a snooty Brit.)
102.1 (this one I have to ask myself why? all the time. I like very little new rock or
alternative. Guess I have it in the hopes they'll slant towards classic rock one
of these days, and stop playing that Korn, Disturbed, and Tool crap.)
102.9 (another one I have to ask why? - the new, new Mix sucks with it's woman
targeted - pseudo alternative slant. I liked the old Mix. I swear if I have to listen
to "He Cheats" or any more Nickelback song, I will slit my wrists.)
103.7 (yet another why? - Never listen, it's just there. Sappy, sappy crappy love songs
and Delilah makes me wanna' hurl)
105.3 (okay, I admit it, I do like listening to Russ at times. But the inside jokes and
seconds upon seconds of dead air and no talking are extremely annoying)
And the next time he asks Chloe "how much time we have?" he needs to
be given an electrical shock)

1080 (my news choice on AM. Barton does a great job with weather. And yes, I
guess I'm one of the few that actually enjoy listening to Ernie and Jay)
820 (used to be my top choice for news. No longer. Use as a backup. Traffic
unreliable in the afternoon because 2 out of every four reports are taped
and outdated. KRLD blows them away in this regard. Hal and crew are still
great. Mark I can force myself to occasionally listen to, but his never wavering
opinions can make me furious at times. Of course, Limbaugh, Hannity, and
especially Levin, can run off the nearest cliff, IMO.)
620 (my daughter has to have her fix of Fergie and Hillary Duff when she's riding
along with daddy, so I oblige)

I really, really miss Air America here in DFW. It's a shame they couldn't make a go of it. I know
it's still a choice on XM, but there are tons (yes, tons) of Dems and progressives in DFW that
are VERY underserved. Not everyone here likes Dubya and his cronies, or Texas Governor
Goodhair.

Well goood for you, we can expect great comments on radio in DFW from ya. The world is a better place now. AirAmerica missed? So you are the one.

Ordinarily, I wouldn't weigh in on this type of thread. Nevertheless...

Even though I work for a DFW station, I have multiple buttons on my radio too. Obviously I listen to the one I work for. And I miss many of the stations that aren't around anymore. But I wish KZPS well. They're attempting the same thing I remember in the early 70's as KFM. Back then we called it Redneck Rock. If they do well, it makes us all better.

What matters though is not whether I like it, or whether I like other stations such as KLUV, The Ticket, WRR, or any of my other presets. Despite my resistance, I've come to the conclusion that although I might get close, I'll never entirely listen to radio as a "real" listener does. That said, I can tell you two people who like what they're hearing. My 16 and 21 year old sons. One is a bass-playing long haired hippie rocker, the other has a David Allen Coe sticker on his pickup. And many of their peers agree. That's refreshing on two levels. One, all those young people with iPods still have radios and they use them. And two - whether its the Bone, Lone Star, KLUV, Oldies, or Classic Rock - more of them than we probably realize are still interested in many of the foundational tunes that started all this in the first place. Someone's wants are being addressed.

Secondly, a concession to those who defend the anonymous post - as if they need my blessing. If someone really does feel they have something to say that their management might take exception to, so be it. Even though they probably signed a paper promising not to do that, that's their business - and I can see where that might occasionally be necessary. The problem I have and always will have with handles regards the ad hominem attack that has nothing to do with policy, philosophy, or fears of corporate retribution - namely, those posts that merely allow the poster to say behind someone's back what they would never dare utter to their target's face. Too often the former devolves into the latter.

Jody that was a good post, and thanks for seeing some reasons behind the nics.
As for radio stations on my presets, like another poster I question why since i rarely listen if at al lto that designated Preset.
1-Kzps- I like the idea of what they are doing it reminds me of the progressive radio era of 1970-1974. Daring ,innovative and artist exposure you don't hear due to the stale sandwiches, and cola focus group research.
2) KLUV- Debbi,Jody, Jonathon, and KYM on traffic. The music rotation has me pushing the butto nquicker however
3) KOOI- TYLER. Good Mor
4) The Bone..but rarely. Their sound processing is awaful and they too have terrible music rotation and FISH? Well I don't understand why he is PD. His on air presense makes me reach for the button
5) KERA -I like to listen to the BBC
6) KRLD-News and Traffic
7) WBAP..NO TALK SHOWS ONLY the news with Bob Crowley,Ellie and Lance
8) WRR
9) KAAM to break the monotony

Cowboys, Mavs, Now WJ

Attention Dallas/Ft Worth listeners. Our contract with the Dallas station has run out and we are looking for a new LONG TERM home. You can catch the show with streaming (affiliates section of this site) links....or podcasts... or you can call stations you want to hear us on. The more noise you make the more likely we are going to be able to get them to hook us up. One listeners suggests FREE 105.3....just call and raise Hell. We will make the best deal in the world to whomever wants the show. It is available immediately with no non-compete problems. The sooner the better we are going to miss you guys. Our call volume from DFW was going through the roof. Shake it up...make some calls. Ten Percenters unite and we will return.

Fire w&j in Houston too!

They sound so desperate! :D

Imagine the nerve, telling listeners to "raise Hell" with radio stations they want to hear w&j on. What arrogance.

Just another reason to fire them from Houston's KIOL immediately. Now they have a bigger gripe against Cumulus and will do nothing but upset and irritate coworkers. So now w&j openly want to compete against Cumulus in Dallas. Pull the plug and improve Texas radio.

It's the senility. Phil Spector would have a better chance at landing a Dallas radio gig at this point.

So sayeth Rex.

For once, Bruce and I agree. KZPS is of no interest to me whatsoever anymore. Wish I had the clearance to build a 200' tower at the house, aimed towards Whitesboro so I could pull in KMAD. I find

FM-1: 88.5, 88.7 (KTCU), 89.7, 90.1 (used to be 92.1 oldies), 102.1 (used to be 92.5), 92.9 (KNIN)

FM-2: 93.3, 94.9, 97.5 (KLAK), 98.7, 100.3, 101.1

FM-3: 102.5 (KMAD), 102.9, 103.7, 106.1, 106.5 (KOOI), 107.5

AM: 620, 770, 1230 (oldies from somewhere), 1410 (oldies from Bowie), 1500, and 820 - the only talk station left that doesn't sound like ____ because of IBOC bandwidth reduction and self jamming.

NOT ONE hillbilly or foreign language station on the list. Minority music is of no interest either. I'm running out of rim shots, perhaps I'll abandon my FM-3 when there aren't enough stations of interest left.

The solution is not to put IBOC on stations. The solution is to stop broadcasting formats that suck. When I listen to 92.9 which barely makes it to the area, KTCU and KOOI which are battered by first adjacent splatter - its about the format. I'm still mourning the loss of 93.7 KLBJ, which I had little trouble hearing at home. Now there is a station with a format that works! Now covered up with a local 93.7 that sucks.

Walton & Johnson instead of Jagger.... I don't think so! W&J are washed up hacks! And on a side note about Phil Spector... is he not the creepiest looking thing?

w&j are poison to any station that hires them.

w&j are poison to any station that carries them and even worse for the unlucky flagship stations that have to have their employees tip-toe around their egos.

Cumulus Houston should follow the example of the Bone.

Fire w&j everywhere!

Any station that would put them on in Dallas would be commiting suicide.

Greetings from 93.3 the Bone! Dallas Fort Worth’s only “Exclusive” Classic Rock Station!

As you probably know, with the recent format changes in the DFW. 92.5 KZPS is no longer on the air as a classic rock station. This leaves 93.3 the Bone as the “Exclusive” 100% Classic Rock Station in Dallas/Ft. Worth.

As of 3:05 today 93.3 The Bone has made a change that will help us super serve our already growing base of listeners. With the changes at KZPS we have been inundated with new listeners and their feedback about the music we play here at 93.3 The Bone and we listened. Our audience wanted more of their favorite Music in the morning and starting Thursday morning our listeners will get a heavy dose of CLASSIC ROCK ON 93.3 THE BONE.

93.3 The Bone plays 100% pure Classic Rock with No Country.

Not to be too critical, but I was just wondering how the station got all of that 'feedback'
since, from what I can tell, 93.3, had no forum/message board up for music fans to make comments to, and 93.3 had no 'Make a Comment/Request' area on their website either.

Perhaps it was all done through the phone...

jd said:
For what it's worth ($0.02), much of the Bone's website is currently under construction. Yawn.

The 93.3 website has had no place for music fans to talk about music and other topics, as with a Forum/Message Board. Nor, has the 93.3 website even had a 'Comment/Suggestion/Music Request' area. Up until now, there has been little, if any interest in getting any feedback from listeners on the web.

But, in "Calssic Rock", where you by definition are playing hit singles..... Well, they ALREADY know what the singles are..... and so with that limited a playlist, you only need to research which of the "singles" are most liked by the audience.

That's a flawed philosophy, in that music lovers with just a little depth want to hear more than songs released as singles.....

But then, their target audience is bag AND shallow, and is more concerned about high-energy jocks and promotions and antics.......

Than good music, which by my definition, is always more than singles.....

Unless you're talking about The Beatles.... are we're not!

I like the new Bone. The music rocks and the on air folks sound like they have energy and a pulse unlike most other stations

People look for different thing from a rock radio station.....

I guess I'm old-fashioned, because I look to a rock station to have energy and pulse,

WITH THE MUSIC THEY PLAY ! !

I don't care how much 'energy' and 'pulse' a station's talent can come up with.....
If they're playing that same old list of singles, over and over..... that woulnd never attract someone like me, who knows who know the difference between commercial 'single' rock, and great album rock songs.....

I laugh..

Exactly. It doesn;t matter what they play, or what any other station plays, he's a complainer that will never be happy. After all, take a real look at that playlist. Look at the musical genres...
Late 60's rock (doors)
80's hard rock(Metallica)
2x70's classic rock (Bad Co and ZZ)
60's southern rock (Allmans)
Late 70s' Brit-rock (Stones)
Late 70's bluesy rock(Thorogood)
Mid-to late 70's (77?) ROck (Petty)
80's grunge (STP)
Late 60's rock (Neil)
Mid 70's rock)
Early 80's rock (rainbow)
Mid 80's prog-rock (rush)
Early 70's heavy metal (Sabbath)
Mid 80's mainstream rock (Henly)
80's rock (VH)
80's hair metal (Skid ROw)
Late 60s' Heavy metal (Zep)
Early 70's Southern rock (Skynrd)
80's grunge (Soundgargen)
Mid 80's top 40 (U2)
Mid 70s' top 40 (Essex)
Early 70's prog-rock (yes)
Mid 80's alternative(cult)
Late 70's alrternative (cars)
early 70's rock (GFR)
Mid 80's metal (metallica)
Late 70's southern rock (Molly)

Everybody complains about a station that plays the same type of music over and over, it looks like they're playing a wide variety of the rock genre- from old stuff like Zepplin&Neil Young, to STP and Soundgarden and every thing in between...
I'm just glad they got off the all hair-metal kick they were on last time I spent any time checking them out...

And personally I'm tired of hearing the complaints about stations that play the hits and singles. Every station I've worked for has tried to broaden the playlist at some point. And watched TSL (and therefore ratings go down hill. To quote Chrissy Hynde, there's a thin line between love and hate. And there's a thin line between too narrow a playlist and too broad of a playlist.

Just complaining about them playing nothing but "hits", when there's stuff that never even sniffed the top 40 on that list is ludicrious, at best...

Stiil i wonder why ovr all listenership is down and more and mor efolks are gyarating to ipods,cd's and satellite. That should tell you something, that They are tired of "assembly line play it safe sounds" with mediocre talent.
