93.3 WDSU Question

Hey Guys:

After all of my research this is what I came up with for 93.3 WDSU-FM:

1. WDSU was on 105.3 to 1966 then moved to 93.3. Did simulcast 1280 up to about 1965.

2. This is from the yearbooks:

63-64: WDSU Dups AM 100%

64-65: WDSU Dups AM 50%

66-69: WDSU Program Seperate from AM. Formats not listed

70-72: WDSU Format: MOR. Program Seperate from AM

Then in Jan 1973 it went WQUE Beautiful Music.

Questions I have is:

1. What was WDSU's format from 1966 to 1970? Beautiful Music? Classical? I could not find this anywhere.

2. Was WDSU MOR format from 1970 to 1972 using Drake's "Hit Parade" Auto format?

Could anybody help me fill in these 2 blanks?

Thanks very much and Happy Holidays!!

T.J.

According to an article in Billboard from May 1966, WDSU FM's format is described as 90% Conservative, 10% Standard. The FM simulcasts with the AM from 6:30 am to 9 am.

The other New Orleans FMs of the time according to Billboard are:

95.7--WWMT, Standard 80%/Classical 20%
97.1--WNNR, Pop Standard and Jazz
98.5--WWOM, Standard

Billboard in that era uses format terms not widely used after the 1960s. I believe that Pop Standard meant mainly records from the MOR charts, what we today would call AC. Standard meant softer vocals and conservative meant mainly instrumental and choruses or what we would have called easy or beautiful music in the 1970s.
