93.5 WFQR has changed it's call sign to WHYA

MOSTLY '90s, 2000s and 2010s. '70s and '80s are still being played, even a '60s song on blue moon. Today I heard the following between 1:45pm and 2:10pm while going to work:

Aretha Franklin - Respect [1967]
Hall & Oates - Rich Girl [1977]

Let it be known that I am not at all a fan of all of these changes. My favorite radio station has been altered and it effects my day to day musical enjoyment. They are probably trying to target the female demographic more and to skew younger as well. Radio is a business and the changes are to attract more advertising and to make more money. Although I dislike changes to some of my favorite stations that have happened so many times over the years, I know why they happen.

With John Garabedian's history in contemporary radio, not to mention he's GOTTA be the oldest dude out there still doing a CHR program, as well as Steve McVie's love of hot hits, the safe money's on CHR.

A Top 40 format is a good idea for WHYA. John Garabedian could broadcast Open House Party on Saturdays and have local DJ's or an automation machine. They would do great in the ratings. :)
 
The other Frank stations in New England (WFNK Lewiston-Portland and WFNQ Nashua-Manchester) are still 70s and 80s Classic Hits. I think they have a good variety, mostly pop-leaning Classic Rock hits.

I'm sure a lot of Frank listeners on Cape Cod and surround Massachusettes will be disappointed.

Codcomm Inc. is making new sites for Frank FM and Pixy 103. The sites redirect to codcomm.cc.
I wonder if they'll use Pixy 103's new logo.

They also are switching their stations' streaming provider from Triton Digital Streaming (formerly StreamTheWorld) to Securenet Systems Radio Streaming Services. All Nassau stations were using StreamTheWorld (as does several other major broadcasters including CBS Radio and Cumulus Media). I notice that both the old and new providers are currently active, but I am sure the old provider will be soon dropped. The links on codcomm.cc are to the new Securenet streams. They both appear to be using the AAC+ codec, however the new provider is at a slightly lower VBR bitrate. It is barely noticeable, but to the audiophile, you can hear a slight degrade in the audio with the new provider.

It's also worth noting that the new stream for Frank FM has the title "93.5 Frank FM" embedded. Yet another hint that 101.1 will eventually break from the simulcast. My best guess is that a new format is being planned and once the two transmitters move to their new facilities, we will see 101.1 launch a new format (anyone want to bet on CHR? Cape Cod's Hot Hits?). ;D

101.1 WHYA is going to end the simulcast with 93.5 WFRQ probably once the new studios are completed and take on a new format.

93.5 WFRQ is undergoing some changes, like dropping themed weekends and they have a new voiceover for the station.

102.9 WPXC is not going to change their format or staff. Codcomm has changed their logo. Pixy 103 has probably been using that old yellow logo since January 2003. Their signal only going from 3,100 watts to 6,800 watts.

It would be ironic for Garabedian to call a Cape Cod CHR "The Rose" - given that he built 96.3 on Nantucket and put it on the air in 1981. I'm not sure if he still owned it when it flipped to "The Rose", but he's the one who applied for the frequency that it was on.

CHR is a no brainer, the format is red hot and Cape Cod's been without one since The Rose flipped to sports. We're certain to be hearing Shane Blue on the Cape again, using his current moniker "Jackson Blue".

Have been sampling 93.5/101.1 lately. Lots of 90's and 2000's R&B/Top 40. Heard Destiny's Child, Aaliyah, etc. Definitely a different sound then before.

It does seems like Frank FM went through a bit of a format tweak, i have still heard a little bit of 70's/80's music, but not as much as the 90's/00's music.
