93.7 (Abq) back on air

After almost a full year of silence, translator K229CL is back on the air simulcasting the Regional Mexican format from KDLW 106.3 just a few days before the current STA expires on Jan. 2. So they now avoid license cancellation. Still no sign of KVVD on 1100 AM. I guess we might see what the long term plan is soon.

FCC records indicate that an extension of the STA for K229CL was granted on 12/10/21 until Jan 02, 2022. Meanwhile, I heard Don Davis voicing a five station ID at the top of the hour for KDLW, KVVD, KSFE, K20EC and K229CL on 93.7. Also, the estate attorney has been granted transfer of control for the two Telebeeper translators in that list which could explain the return on air for 93.7, but heard nothing on 1100 AM for KVVD. How the five section pie will end up being programmed (and owned) remains to be seen. Perhaps the AM daytime signal in Peralta will be used as a feeder for programming to the 93.7 ABQ translator.

I don't hear KVVD in Edgewood but that is not a surprise. I barely get any of the 1kW out of ABQ. Maybe sometime if business is slow, I will actually drive down to the specified coordinates and see if there is a tower there ;)

Now 93.7 has been broadcasting dead air the last couple of days. I checked 1100 AM which appears to still be airing the Spanish format from what is now KXOT 106.3 (still called "exitos") but I had to turn the volume up quite a bit to hear anything. Also, the KRKE call letters will be transferred to AM 1100 Peralta while 101.3 will become KYLZ on September 1. Draft Copy « Licensing and Management System « FCC KYLZ was the call letters for 106.3 from 1997-2005 when it known as "Wild 106". I don't know if it will rebrand as "Wild 101.3" or if it is just being picked up for sentimental reasons. Vanguard has retrieved call letters from past stations in the market a few times. The KRKE call letters were used on 610 AM in the 70s and 80s and were briefly assigned to 94.1 in the mid-80s but I don't know anything about that station's legacy. However, the "wild" brand has been reused a couple of times to no success.

So, could we soon see a new format on the new KRKE?

They just sent notice that the primary station for K229CL will be KRKE 1100 after they just did a modification moving the coverage a bit to the south to fit entirely within the KRKE contour. Draft Copy « Licensing and Management System « FCC

As of today, KXOT 106.3 is still simulcasting on 93.7 which is coming in really well on any radio I checked. Now the question is what do they do on these signals.
