93.7 broadcasting NOAA Weather Radio in the past?

Did 93.7 really simulcast NOAA Weather Radio as a stunt for an entire year back in the 90s?
If so, why did they do it?

NOAA Weather was on around 1989 after 93.7 WLVH dropped Spanish and 1230 became Spanish as WLAT, up to the start 0f WZMX as Mix 93.7 in 1990. I'm told there was actually some advertiser interest in NOAA Weather Radio, but it was basically a way to hold onto the license and keep something on the air after 93.7 La Grande went adios...

How come 93.7 just didn't play some music or something. Sure back then you didn't have a Jack-FM or whatever you wanna call it. But couldn't they of done that too.

I guess the owner wasn't interested in putting a music format on during that period.

It was a financial-saving move during the transition.

I do indeed remember this one. It was for a several month period in 1990. They debuted as The New Mix 93.7 (hence the WZMX call letters) that fall.

IIRC, the original ownership was pretty much out of money. Couldn't have paid for a satellite-delivered music format if it wanted to.

The entire time NOAA Weather Radio was similcast on 93.7, I don't remember any form of legal id from 93.7, although I do remember NOAA actually starting to add 93.7 as part of it's id, but I don't remember NOAA giving a call-sign for 93.7.

They did ID as WLVH Hartford during the NOAA Weather Radio days at the end of PSAs they'd throw in. I probably remember that from tuning in often not only to get the weather but also to hear how long that radio oddity was going to last.

I enjoyed the 70's format and waking up to Sebastian in the mornings, dancin' oldies was good too, I gave it up when rap started on WZMX.
To this day, I still have a WZMX T-shirt from their '70's format.

If we had a station like this today just broadcasting all weather would it do well? Sure for most people if they want to find the weather they will put on 1080 WTIC or wait for a music break on their favorite station. But not all stations give the weather after 12pm. Sure Lite 100.5, Country 92.5, WDRC-FM and TIC-FM do, Hot 93.7 doesn't really only just say a major news event going on. I think KISS and River do, not sure about 104.1 or WCCC.

I don't think it would be any use at all. You already have weather radio, and you have the internet.
