93.7 K229BJ is back on the air

It's on now, but with a weaker signal which makes me think they built out their latest CP.

They were messing with it, it sounded like they were trying to pick up 89.7 KJMA a few minutes ago.

I heard the same programming on the air on both stations.

Right now it's on with KJMA, and sounds as good as KJMA's transmitter on 89.7 does. Seems like they fixed it.
I just looked at the application, can't really find anything since their STA in April. Their main station shows up as KBNL 89.9 in Laredo, and it's interesting that 89.9 and 89.7 are just two channels away from each other. http://www.fccinfo.com/CMDProEngine.php?sCurrentService=FM&tabSearchType=Appl&sAppIDNumber=1669828

They did build out the CP... It becomes weaker and is non-existant downtown now.

It's still on with Catholic programming from KJMA. But when any type of tropo happens, static overlay can be heard clearly on 93.7 along with KJMA's audio. They are probably using an FM antenna at the K229BJ transmitter site to pick up 89.7 off air... Right now though the static overlay is so bad I can barely hear anything else. Did the antenna fall down or is some atmospheric condition blocking it? I'm not even sure if it's a permanent translator for KJMA or if they're just using it in the meantime while they figure something out.

Remember the translator has brand new owners...

I think I should call KJMA up tomorrow and check whether or not they know about 93.7 retransmitting them, and about all the static.

The static is worse, now pretty much constant, I can still hear KJMA underneath but it sounds horrible. I don't get it..?

I called KJMA's office a week ago, no answer. I left a voicemail but they haven't called me back.

By the way, it looks like their CP was granted yesterday.

This can't be permanent. The static on 93.7 is no better--as a matter of fact I checked it right now and had a solid signal on 93.7 but heard nothing but static.
Perhaps they've got it simulcasting KJMA temporarily until they get a new station to rebroadcast. Maybe one of the new LPFMs?

The translator is off the air now, went dark yesterday.

K229BJ is back with KJMA's programming. Yesterday it sounded fine, but right now the static is coming back and mixing in with KJMA...

I think they're just trying to keep the license active with these broadcasts until they find something that works more reliably than KJMA does. If you ask me they should either move frequencies or turn it in, it's interfering with KLBJ Austin down here.

Waste of a signal

Here are 2 recordings of what K229BJ sounds like. Last night I heard it broadcasting KJMA clearly, but with a loud humming in the audio. Now it's back to static mixed in with the programming like it is 80% of the time, and the humming is still there.

If 93.7 won't pick it up reliably why is 105.9 K290CC hoping to rebroadcast KJMA? It's even further away than 93.7 is to KJMA, TMK. I'm not sure 93.7 is temporarily using KJMA now that I see 105.9 hoping to do the same thing.

I've got nothing against 93.7 but for real they need to do something about the bad audio it's broadcasting, even my part 15 FM sounds better!
