93.7/Spokane Stunting

Looks like Mapleton has killed "The Cat" - and the curiosity is killing us... Right now, they're stunting with sort of an American theme... is it going to be a conservative FM talker? Hmmm...

repackaged as "The Mountain"...new country.
The new logo was on the streaming player HOURS before the launch. Oops.

Rebranding, refocusing the demos and the sales staff won't have to start from scratch.

Smart.

Also, dropping the gauntlet on KXLY/Coyote and KIXZ/KIX96 in staking out demos.

Mapleton is making some fine moves of late. The opening salvo was igniting NOW 105.7 and now 93.7 The Mountain. What's in store next? I'm waiting to see how they fix KGA.

They are slowly erasing the dark cloud that's been hanging over the cluster for years.

Good job guys.

But as they say, a Cat by any other name.....

I would have thought Spokane would have tried a "Click" type format by now. Or is KZZU doing that?

Yah, I'm with ya there. It's just a new slogan and a playlist tweak similar to what KIOK/Tri-Cities did with going from Thunder Country to The Wolf.

Perhaps the advertisers had soured on the Cat branding. This gives Mapleton a chance for a full reboot without too much damage. I'd heard awhile ago Mapleton wanted to get away from the old Citadel era brandings, putting the Mapleton stamp on things.

At it's core, I like it because it's also signaling a revamping of the culture within the cluster. Mapleton is showing they aren't going to roll over and stay with the status quo anymore. Clear Channel and the gang on Boone are on notice.

As for the Click concept, since I'm not living up there I don't have firsthand info. From what I know, no, Spokane doesn't have someone doing it. Hot AC and adult CHR remains unchanged between KCDA and KZZU.

The swinging up there is in the CHR war and perhaps a just ignited country war.

I listenend to the stunting leading up to the flip...very poor job...same 3 school house rock cuts played over and over and over...all this talk about a "bill" etc. YES I remember them fromt he Saturday cartoons. The editing of the clock ticking was not even done right. UGG. POOR execution.

Then the promo right before the flip...new voice guy...new name...etc etc. Talking about fresh new country etc....and the first song was not even new...another overplayed power gold. Wow...dissapointed. 4 songs later...promo about how they will not bore us with talk commercials etc...they VALUE our time...and the min long promo goes into what???? COMERCIALS. UGG. I turned it off.

POOR execution...for a flip.
