To the "Wild Pioneer" above, you guys did excellent work - but Reno is a very white-bred market and it has been proven that rhythmic is a difficult sell to the local market, no matter what the numbers say. KWNZ (before and after the switch to CHR/POP) has kicked KWYL for over a year in local direct billing, which is always a reliable barometer on the success of any local radio station. Arbitron is only half the story...local support is the rest of it.
To expand on the CCMAYS point...From many different accounts coming over time from the KWYL staff, Sandy "No N----r Music" Gamblin (I worked under him in '97-'98 at KWNZ - and the "N" word is the euphemism he used to refer to rhythmic music) has been beating on the KWYL staff to not sound "Urban" on the air pretty much ever since he got back to Reno. Between that and lack of local support (billing and community-wise), it would be Sandy's dream to be successful in making Wild go away.
Does Reno need another Rock station? The only way to effectively market Rob, Arnie and Dawn is to have them on a rock station. Citadel-Reno, with the exception of KKOH (which takes on more 35+ adults than anything else), has no stations going after males - especially 18-49 or 25-54...that is a crowded market, though...
