93.7 The Arrow's Audio fidelity

What is wrong with 93.7 ?? It sounds so compressed and limited that the high hats on songs sound like flip flops waling on the floor?? And it sounds like it is in mono?? I was listening earlier today, and I dont know who set up the Optimod or Omnia, but it needs some help!! I know in other markets the engineer has no control and its the PD. If that is true he needs a new radio or a hearing air! I really try to listen to 93.7 because I like the morning show, and its the closest thing to an oldies station here in Houston. Come on CC make is sound good please!

Maybe CC is sharing Beaumont engineering staff with Houston. KCOL-FM sounded like that for weeks last year, improved for awhile, then regressed recently.

I know one of CC Houston's engineering guys very well..I'll pass it over to him, and he can kick it upstairs.

Well up until June of last year all of the Beaumont CC stations sounded great they had finally fixed the terrible fidelity of KKMY and KIOC and KLVI. Then it all went down the toilet in June of 2010.

My personal preference for classic rock processing is to process it very little, let the sound be dynamic and use some kind of stereo widening effect to open up the sound stage. No need for "loudness war" style processing on a classic rock station.

You'd be surprised at how many AC and CR PDs still believe that louder is better. I've seen markets where everyone was running at 145%, and blowing the living daylights out of their station audio. I finally came to the conclusion that most of the PDs are deaf from years of going to live concerts where they follow this same philosophy. I haven't seen an audio mixer at a concert who knew beans about quality audio. But, if you make everyone's eardrums numb, they don't know the difference anyway.
