93.7 The Fan Bans Hosts From Talking About Pirates Prez DUI Arrest

Actually by the time you posted this - in fact, as of 10:00 last night - the Coonelly incident was being discussed on The Fan. Thanks to tireless work by the hosts (who had been hung out for public criticism) management finally realized that they'd screwed up and finally trusted the hosts (and producers) to do the job they'd been hired to do - a decision that should have been made in the first place.

I'd say this says a whole lot more about Pirate management than The Fan's (although anyone claiming
to be a journalistic enterprise should be made of sterner stuff).

I'm sure there were threats, shouting and foot-stamping from the Pirates to stay off of this,
"if you ever expect us to renew our contract with you".

But it goes on all the time. Do you think the guys in the News Dept. easily get a green light
to cover a negative story on an auto dealer if that dealer comprises a huge % of their billings?

More importantly, I hope Mr. Coonelly learns his lesson from this. I still remember that awful
night when a drunken Penguin GM Baz Bastein plowed his car into the guard rail on the Parkway.
We don't want to see another story like that.

It was very odd yesterday. They were almost OVER-covering it on the 20 minute sports updates, yet nary a word was said all through Vinnie and Cook & SSM.

Again, it was a poor decision, who ever made it.

No it's knowing where your bread is buttered. Expect plenty of soft ball talk about this team especially when the annual tanking begins.

This is on the Fan all the way, not on Pirates Management.
This is just the latest and most egregious public incident of how they have covered (for) their properties.

Not true at all.

The bottom line is, The Fan should have made the decision to have Coonelly's DUI be a topic of conversation on their air... not Deadspin.
