93.7 WRMO, Milbridge, ME - Sample Hour

Saturday April 7, 2012 12 noon to 1 p.m.

Rock This Town - Stray Cats
Dance With Me - Peter Brown
You Are - Lionel Richie
How Sweet It Is - James Taylor
September - Earth Wind and Fire
Lookin' For A Love - Jody Watley
:20 break
Let It Whip - Dazz
He Don't Love You - Tony Orlando and Dawn
Mony Mony - Billy Idol
When The Going Gets Tough - Billy Ocean
Ventura Highway - America
Shake Your Groove Thing - Peaches and Herb
Dance Hall Days - Wang Chung
You Are The Woman - Firefall
:50 break
Night Fever - Bee Gees
What About Love - Heart
Everybody Plays The Fool - The Main Ingredient

Total sidebar: Why does every station play the studio version of "Mony Mony" by Billy Idol? The live version was the hit version. Heard it a few weeks ago on a replay of "AT 40".

After this hour, my favorite Duran Duran song started the next hour, "Rio". Followed by "A Woman Needs Love" by Ray Parker Jr. I hope they succeed in the area. The only paid commercial I've heard so far is for Eastward bowling lanes, who are also the sponsors of the Eastward bowling lanes weather desk.

There is a general feeling that "black" music won't work in Downeast Maine. Way too much rhythmic music on this station,

Black music...

Hey there's too much Tony Orlando and Dawn!

OK, I'm the first to admit that I'm not in on the business of radio any more. But when I tuned into the station, I didn't hear color in the music. I remember these songs as popular...even on stations here in Maine back when they were popular 30 to 40 years ago. They position themselves at the "greatest hits". Will they be on lobster boats in the bay? Probably not, but that's what WKIT, the 'TOS translator and 99.1 the Bear are for. With a signal blanketing Ellsworth, I can definitely hear the station being on in some businesses and remember how diverse the population is on MDI in the summer. If I want to hear more of a classic hits (Springsteen, Genesis, Mellencamp, Aerosmith) genre, there's 97.7 WNSX, I-95 WWMJ, WKIT etc. I say congratulations to them for trying something different around here. And if I want to hear "American Top 40 - 70's or 80's" it's nice to hear them over the air and not depend on the internet.

I'm 54 and a lot of these songs are rapidly becoming the oldies of my generation. Maybe we're not the coveted 18 - 35, but there are certainly more of the over 40 crowd up here than the 18 - 35's. Not bragging, just a fact of life. And we still purchase goods and services. I still think they will do well.

Again, why does everything have to be formulaic? I enjoy hearing groups like Dawn, the Stylistics, one hit wonders and even songs that make me scratch my head wondering who it is. Witness the recent conversation with rjoc and I wondering who did the MTM theme?

I enjoy listening to many stations, both terrestrial and internet and I'm just happy that there's a new station that doesn't sound like every other one in the market.

Right now, because they are new, it might be enjoyable to hear some of these songs. And perhaps it'll last through this summer.

But there is a reason why many of these songs aren't played on radio stations on a regular basis.
There's a reason why I 95 moved away from being a pop based oldies station (as Magic) to what it is today.

Downeast Maine is a very blue collar area. Rock and country rule. Isn't 104.7 a "Greatest Hits" station now with a music mix that is more focused than this? Seems to me like these guys may be a little too late.

Actually, It is a great sample hour. I think it will work well in the office, and business community. I don't know if you have anything in the market for 35+ demo (female). This might work. Kudos. I hope they stream soon. Do they have a website?

Isn't 92.9 WEZQ the "office station"?

Nope, Nothing yet, not even a website....but they're new; give them time!

Thanks to everyone for the great comments about the new WRMO, 93.7 The Wave on the boards. I'm glad that everyone is enjoying the format and getting a chance to hear stuff that hasn't been on the radio around here for a while. We are putting the final pieces together for our website and it will include streaming, so thanks for your patience as we ramp this up. Until then, check us out on Facebook at www.facebook.com/wrmo93.7thewave

Really impressed with the station. I've enjoyed WNSX for a while, but I like having a bit more rhythmic songs in the mix. This station plays more 80s and songs that make you feel like dancing. Keep up the good work.
