93.9 KISS FM flips to country as B93.9

I am too, but i guess this was in the works for quite sometime since G-105 and Kiss sounded the same, but WQDR will continue to be the dominant country station in the triangle.

Raleigh may have been the only sizable market in the South, other than Miami, that had only one Country station. I guess CC saw a vacuum and decided to fill it. But now that means there's no Hot AC station somewhere between G 105 and WRAL.

The Raleigh market only has nine full power commercial FM signals (Class B or C). One of them is occupied by a Talk station, one by a Sports station, so that leaves only 7 commercial FM music stations. If two are Country, that means some format, in this case Hot AC, is going to be left out, or will have to go on a lower power station that doesn't fully cover the market.

Right now, QDR is making a shit ton of Facebook pages with similar names to B93.9, kinda like they did when Rooster launched, they bought a few domains and those redirected to QDR's website.

Ah, Clear Channel. Throw on a copy cat format, charge low low low rates and ruin the market. Just like Greensboro, Charlotte and every other CC market. So sad. I've counted 26 commercials in an hour on G105 and Kiss FM.

Does anybody have a clip of the flip (maybe the last song or two of Kiss, the launch of B93.9, and the first couple songs of B)? I've been looking for it since I first learned of the flip and have had no luck yet :(

QDR is going to stay on top in this market. From what I have learned in this industry...no matter where you are in seems like independent companies and small mom and pop stations pull through better. (When they have a 75,000Kw to 100,000Kw station)

Will CC GSO also make a format change in any of their stations? If you have the power which one will you flip and what will you put on?

I would flip 94.5 WPTI and make it 1967-1982 Oldies with a touch of Beach Music

I wouldn't change anything, but I would bring back the Kiss name to WMKS 105.7; its current format, not to mention the fact they kept the WMKS calls, makes the Kiss-FM name fit right in... also bring back the Magic name to WMAG...

I think that's a great idea. Plenty of Top 40 stations are called Kiss. It could be they don't want to have the same name as their competition in Charlotte. There may be some overlap in their signals. I know I can pick up both.

they couldnt kill pulse so now they gonna try QDR, good move CC....

whereas radio ones urban over there is still oh so ripe for the picking, and with their clock radio audio quality now..

I have a feeling GSO won't do anything. They have a good setup of variety. They have WTQR but that hasent been doing good since WPAW took over oldies.

Also, I was driving through Raleigh yesterday and B93.9 seems pretty confident that they are going to overtake the market giving their imaging. I highly doubt it.

Suggested edit to your above post.

WTQR has actually recovered and has done better than WPAW among total listeners several times.

UPDATE: They did indeed bring back the Kiss name in GSO (see my new thread "Kiss-FM is back!")...
