Average numbers to start. Don't see this format lasting a long time.

Averge? In 25-54, it is pretty much equaling the old Smooth Jazz number range from prior books in its debut numbers!

If WKTU in NY is any indication, in the PPM it should be solidly in the very top tier of stations in its target demo.

Unfortunately for Clear, almost all the listeners came from WMGE...

Don't get ahead of yourself. It's only the 1st Arbitrend. I'm predicting the numbers will go up later on.

Its still too early to tell what will happen, since the station is new. Like I said in an earlier post, the only way that 93.9 MIA will fail is if they repeat the same mistakes Mega 103.5 did. If the playlist stays predictable with the same repeated songs, expect a new format soon. There are no excuses as to why this station can't make it. There are lots of hits that were big and still are big here in Miami, that they aren't getting played. Most of these hits were played on both Power 96 and Y-100,and would fit the rhythmic AC format just fine. As an avid music collector and DJ, I find it hard to swallow that they are becoming too predictable. Hopefully, they will add more songs to the playlist before its too late.

The extraps for the first month have the sales demos at or ahead of single months from the last smooth jazz ratings. The start is quite auspicious.

What David meant was the first incarnation of WMGE , Mega 103.5 when it was jammin oldies. Not the second version which is now Spanish CHR on 94.9.

Actually, in January (extrap) most of the 93.9 growth came directly from WMGE... Obviosusly, Hispanic listeners who prefer the rhythmic tunes in English to the pop songs in Spanish.

Equates robbing Peter to pay Paul.....

Maybe it would've been better to flip 94.9 to the Rhythmic AC format, and retool Love 94 as a mainstream AC to go up against LITE and Coast or simply flip to WIOD-FM??

I think Clear wants to have at least one station in Spanish in a market with an Hispanic population majority.

I would agree that has to be the case. But, at what cost? As one person pointed out, "Equates robbing Peter to pay Paul....."

What other alternatives do they have? I mean let's face it outside of Y-100 & BIG, there's not much else safe in that building on the FM side.

A friend who actually exists works at CC Miami, he tells me the old Love studio essentially serves as an extra production room while Prophet runs the show. I'm wondering how seriously they're talking it there or if they're just setting it and forgetting it.

The purpose for 93.9 MIA is to simply cut into 97.3 and 101.5' s numbers. It is nothing more than a poorly programmed corporate ipod. They have no clue on how to program to the sound of Miami. It sounds more like "Anywhere U.S.A.". It is very disappointing that CC isn't putting any effort into the format, since it has so much potential to be a hit, and they are going nowhere with it. There are so many songs that were huge in Miami and still are huge here that aren't getting played that would fit the rhythmic AC format. One example as to how they don't care, I emailed them with a list of songs that would fit the format, and to this day, they haven't responded. They always mention in their liners about "tell us what you would like to hear more of". What a joke. They simply ignore the listener. And they want to know why radio is in the situation it is in. They just don't cater to the listeners anymore. "NO LISTENERS = NO RATINGS = NO REVENUE". Plain and simple.

i wouldnt be surprised if on 4-1-09 940 foxsports debuts along with newsradio 949 and 610 progressive talk since it was previously stated that the majority spanish population has fled 949 for 939 cause they rather listen to english stations (thanks david)

Funny, but they moved up from 17th to 14th in 25-54 in its first month.

What I was trying to point out here is the fact that the playlist is very stale, and after the first two to three months of being on the air, people will begin to notice how repetitive and boring the station really is. Its a shame that CC still hasn't learned its lessons from the mistakes they made with Mega 103.5. The mistakes are still being repeated on 93.9. What a shame, so much potential with this format, and they aren't executing it properly. There is no effort if any being put into this station whatsoever. I know I am being repetitive here David, but as a format that plays music from the 70's to today, there are plenty of rhythmic hit songs that were and still are huge here in Miami and they are not getting any airplay whatsoever. I can understand that a typical CHR is repetitive because it has to continually play and promote new songs every hour, but a rhythmic AC should not be so repetitive since the majority of its playlist consists of songs that are already known to the listeners already. If this station is to survive, it needs to continue adding more songs to the playlist. It doesn't matter what time of day it is, when I tune in, I hear the same set of songs playing. It gets really boring and predictable after awhile. They should begin acting like a rhythmic AC should, and stop acting like a CHR. They should leave the CHR antics to Y-100.

That is the problem with most stations. A tight playlist. I belive in the 200-300 range of rotation. There are so many songs that were monster hits in South Florida that are shunned. A station like this should have such a vast array of music to choose from, yet they don't. 93.9 should talk to the club dj's as well as their PD & MD should head out to these clubs to see what people actually dance to. Leave it to consultants who know nothing about the market to run the station. It's a mistake and waste of a format. I tune in every so often and i'm already hearing the same songs i've heard the time I tuned in before.

Finally someone here on this board agrees on what i've been trying to point out. With a format such as rhythmic AC, there really is no excuse to having a tight playlist. CC thinks the listeners aren't worth it and brain dead and wouldn't notice the sloppy programming. Newsflash, this arrogant mentality is the main reason as to why they can't keep steady formats on their stations (a.k.a "the revolving door"), and is one of the main reasons why radio today is in trouble. We need the king of Miami radio Stuart Elliott back on the air making music decisions Miami style, and not some texas armchair cowboy making music decisions who has no damn clue about Miami's unique sound. Localism will always beat out voice tracking and automation anytime.

This is my new favorite radio station. My girlfriends and I listen to this station non-stop.
