93.9 MIA

My wife and I vacationed in Miami two weeks ago. Discovered 93.9 MIA
and liked it very much. We thought it sounded like Miami felt. Warm and
with with a beat. We heard many songs we hadn't heard in years.

If they had played local or club hits, we would NOT have liked it as much.
People move to and from Miami all the time. You have to keep gold based stations
familiar to win.

We're both in radio in a large market (not CC). Our hands on experience proves to us
that a tight playlist wins. It defines your format and station.

On the contrary my friend, launching a new station with a tight playlist just doesn't cut it here in Miami. You may not know about this since you're a visitor. We had a station on the air here back in the day similar to the new 93.9 MIA. It was called Mega 103.5 . It had a very tight playlist with lots of burned out songs. 93.9 continues to ignore lots of songs that were and still are big hits here. The station only lasted three years (1999- 2002). CC is repeating the same mistakes they made with 103.5 . If the repetitiveness continues, expect the public to get tired of the repetition very soon, and expect a format flip soon. What works for your station in your market may not work in this market. This is what corporate radio fails to understand, and is one of the reasons why radio is in the trouble its in.

just an observational question why is it that southeast and southwest florida has gotten the "movin" format when the rest of the country is dumping it? ???

Simple, it is easy for CC to use automation and voicetracking, instead of spending the money on live DJ's and promoting the station. It is the main reason why radio in general is in the situation its in. As long as CC contiunues to do this on their stations, expect the wheel of formats to continue spinning.
