93.9 The Mountain, Flagstaff, AZ

I was up in Flagstaff skiing a few weeks ago, came across this station and was wondering what format it is? It was playing "classic rock", but bands I haven't heard since the 80's when I was in high school... Aldo Nova anyone? It pretty much felt like a station that was stuck in a time warp from 1983. Just curious if this is an actual format or just an oddity?

Was it just a specialty show or two you caught? They're classified as Classic Rock. I haven't listened lately so I wouldn't know.

I know I've heard some attempts of the Classic Rock format by Mexican-licensed stations on the border in the past 20 years that had some strange musical selections.

I think it was just their regular programming. I heard it on a Monday and a Tuesday, during both the morning and afternoon with stuff I have not heard since the 80's. As mentioned Aldo Nova, but also Rocking In The Free World by Neil Young, Cold as Ice by Foreigner, and a string of Rolling Stones songs at 4:20 sponsored by a dispensary (get it?), along with a few other tunes that I can't recall. However, no GNR, Van Halen, Zeppelin, AC/DC, i.e. the standard classic rock fare. It was so different and I was up there skiing so I thought maybe I was in Hot Tub Time Machine 😀
