93.9 The Song to live on.. sorta.

I noticed in the website for the Song that the manager was promoting the new format
to be the first all talk FM station for Indy. That would be true, but in a sense WFYI
FM is the first almost-all-talk FM station in Indy. Except for some late night classical
music and their weekend variety shows, WFYI is almost an all-talk station, even after
midnights when they air the BBC World Service with news and comments.

It sure would be nice to hear some unbiased talk shows, perhaps even a liberal hour
thrown in now and then. Correct me if I am wrong, but are not the hate filled conservative hosts like Hannity and Limbaugh losing listeners or am I just wishfully
thinking? Radio stations in Indy seem to think that this whole community is filled with
nothing but right wingers. I would agree that the right wingers are in a bigger majority,
but there are some free thinking, liberal thinking, positive thinking folks out here too,
people who are more in line with our founding fathers, such as John Adams and
Thomas Jefferson.

Nice to see that the Madison Wisconsin station listeners were able to protest loud enough
and strong enough to keep the Air America affiliate from being format-switched....at
least for the time being.

Well there ya go. If you knew the majority of a community did NOT want to hear, say, rap music, would you flip to a rap format? Maybe if you had a low power station, but not if you had any decent sized stick you wanted to make a buck off of.

Politcally, Marion county is quite white. Liberal talk could work on a class A FM, but it wouldn't work as well on WIBC because not many people in Hendricks, Johnson, or Morgan counties would listen, thereby hurting overall ratings. Not many people could listen to 93.9 in those places anyway due to signal issues.

Wasn't 95.9 all talk before they switched to CCM as "Joy"? I know, a rimshot, but 93.9 isn't a 50KW powerhouse, either.

I tried to tune into 93.9 today for Christmas and to hear their signal, and I wasn't really able to pick it up. I am on the near westside.
