93/KHJ is Back! and it sounds great

Could you elaborate? Why is it revisionist history, in your opinion?

Oh, golly gee, maybe because it's a wimpy FM and not the legendary flame-throwing AM?

It's a poser! A wannabe!

It ain't gonna set the world on fire.

Sorry, but I've heard some real "stiffs" from airchecks of this station sent to me in the past day or two.

Playing old jingles...and old songs does not recreate a legend.

But, enjoy while it lasts.

One Who Knows, I sort of noticed that too. They've even thrown in 50's music, which don't sound like it really fits with the jingles.

What I do enjoy is the lengthy aircheck portions when streaming online. Having the jock introduce the song lets me know it's more of the real thing, rather than somebody putting together their own playlist and throwing in jingles and talk-ups here and there.

The website encourages you to "listen at 93.5 FM," and one of the earlier postings mentions Central CA. Is this an LPFM? What are the call letters? What city is it licensed to?

I have found this station to sound awesome! I love the airchecks and old radio commercials. No doubt it's the genius of Chris Edwards White the " Legends of Rock and Roll" guy heard live on Saturday nights and the guy behind the other great oldies sighs i love to listen to

I've been listening on line for a while. I'm suspicious of this being a pirate. Radio Locator has the calls KHJ belonging to a Spanish AM station in LA at 930khz. Unless Radio Locator just hasn't updated the site, which is possible. I'm still suspcious though. When you click on the contact tab at the top of there websitem it prompts you to enter email and so on. Why would you need to do that for just contact info?

Could this be the 93.5 they're referring to?

I don't think so. The stream for this station is playing active rock.

i suspect the link for the website on radio-locator.com that goes to knac.com isn't the site for the station.. KNAC.COM is a long exsisting internet station and radio locator just trolled the net for a corresponding URL

gag, gag..cough, cough.

Gary Mora's KYA web site is at least 20 times better than Chris Edwards White's KYA-F (Firebaugh) stream. Wonder how long it'll be before he posts pictures of his bar and swimming pool, like he did on the old KFYA-F site??

Wow I guess we all have our opinions but I thought the Gary Mora sight did not sound as good. I don't know what they have done on the Mora site but it doesn't sound as clean and clear as the KYA site. I agree the KYAF site does not sound as good.
On the other hand I like to tune in the Saturday night live Legends show with Chris Edwards White because it is live and plays requests, the music is great and it's fun to listen too.
Mr Akbar what do you have against this station. Oh yes I have read all the stuff about Chris Edwards White but I don't care about any of that I just like the music. He is a music genius.

If people are worried about authenticity and 50s tracks, why not do this:

Each day, recreate a different year from KHJ history. Pretend it's that month, from that year. Now I don't just mena play the currents from the year. Play whatever KHJ would have played: that means mostly currents, with some slightly older, and some "gold."

It would be fairly easy to reconstruct what KHJ was playing through airchecks and playlists. Combine re-creations with any airchecks that are lying around.

I'd enjoy that, myself. Better than just mushing it all together.

My ears are ringing! KNAC in Earlimart is a public radio station that, to my knowledge, has been dark for a few years now. Definately not the origination of our stream at KNAC.COM

KNAC "The Knack") was an "underground FM rock station licensed to Long Beach in the 1970s and 80s. - "Pure Rock" 105.5." They had a cult audience, but due to signal limitations, were never really able to take hold in the LA rock market against KMET, KLOS, etc. I left LA in the early 70s, and though I was a devotee of the LA underground stations, KNAC was not on my radar.

According to Wikepedia, KNAC endured as an Alt-rock station until the early 90s, then went under. knac.com apparently carries on the tradition.
