93 KHJ "You" series jingles

Anyone know where I can find a high-quality copy of the KHJ "You" jingles?

Count me in; I've been searching for a copy of the "You" jingles for KHJ as well.
The only ones that seem to be out there are for other stations like KFRC.
There is an exhibit on Reel Radio that showcases the set recorded for RKO's WHBQ,
but unfortunately none for KHJ seem to be floating around.

What are the "you" jingles....do they have catch line?

I was on the air doing mid-day news at 93 KHJ in the waning days of Top 40, when Rick Dees was doing mornings. Even though the Boss Radio days were long gone by 1980 (although we still had the likes of Bobby Ocean on the air), it was always a rush to be on the air and hear those melodic jingle singers intoning, "93 K-H-J, Los Angeles!"

The Johnny Mann singers did many of the jingles and their website seems to indicate that Johnny Mann is very concerned about unlicensed use of his jingles online, so perhaps that's why they are hard to find.

The "You" series jingles were produced by TM and used on KHJ and the other RKO Top 40 stations in 1976 & 77, possibly as early as 1975. If I'm correct, KFRC used them till the later 70's as well. The main phrase was, "We do it for you on 93 KHJ!" also "You and KFRC!". They were wonderful jingles sought after by many collectors. The RKO stations also used jingles made by Pams, most notably the "Energy 1" series from around 1974. TM also produced The "Winning Score" package for KHJ, but if I recall correctly they were never used as by that time PD John Sebastian was stripping KHJ of just about all it's personality.

The "Winning Score" was used by KFI in the mid 1980's. Great jingles!

There was a special clearance of 31 hours of the original History with the Drake narration sold just over a year ago by KenR, who has since retired.

Fortunately ... I bought a copy of the entire series, including the last hour ... the "Number One Rock & Roll Montage" which was, alone, worth the cost.

The KHJ "You" package from TM was also widely available for a time. Now, the best place to buy them (if possible) would be from Tracy Carmen's MEDIA PRESERVATION FOUNDATION (at www.jingles.org) I don't think you can even buy the demo directly from TM anymore.

The Drake-narrated version is from 1981. The original (1969) History of Rock and Roll was voiced by Robert W. Morgan. The first update (late 1970-ish) added Humble Harve, as Morgan had left for Group W's WIND, Chicago. Other RKO stations (KFRC, WRKO, CKLW, WHBQ) used their own in-house talent to voice the script.

It's highlights of the original 1969 version that Jacobs is offering on CD.

TM has the "You" series sung for 96.9 JACK-FM/Vancouver on their demo downloads. It was purchased (at least one reason) because CKLG (LG-73) had been a big Top 40 in the city and had used that package just after RKO bought them stateside. (JACK also picked up the call letters back in 2003). Many of the early JACKs bought the package to copy the Canadian stations.

Didn't KRTH run the Drake version a while back with some updated segments added? Also, I recall the History Of Rock & Roll being aired again in the late 70's by the RKO stations. I was living in Northern California at the time and it was narrated by John Mack Flanagan on KFRC. Talk about great narration, JMF really captured the essence of what it was all about. Powerful work... As for the "You" jingles, I'm still searching for the KHJ versions with no luck...

In fact, a few years ago, the whole package was available for download into mp3 from TM Century's webste, but they soon after changed that. Not sure why. I had it too, but I can't find it now. It's a great package!
