93 Rock vs. Zeta

A

I've been reading posts on this website for almost a year now and have decided to finally make one of my own after reading the latest 93 Rock post. Mostly because of a line that Ivan said...that Zeta sucked. I listened to Zeta (and SHE,and Planet), I listen to 93 Rock now and I must say, if you really think that 93 Rock sounds better than Zeta did, it's time to turn your radio ears in. Zeta sounded better than any of the stations that were just mentioned from top to bottom. Zeta did need to expand it's library a bit I'll give you that, but music is just one part of the formula. The jocks, the promotions, the imaging, the personality of the radio station, it all sounded larger than anything I've heard on 93 Rock yet.

I'll go one better, I can't even give you a personality discription of 93 Rock, because it doesn't have one (quite frankly KISS in San Antonio, another Cox station doesn't either, but it does do well). Zeta had a sense of humor to it, even outside of Paul & Ron. There doesn't seem to be any sense of humor over at 93 Rock. Does that come down to lack of a morning show or a programmer who doesn't see that as being part of the formula. I like to listen to rock music, and I like to laugh, I got both listening to Zeta, I only get one of the two listening to 93 Rock. Are we not suppose to be entertained when listening to the radio? To me it's not about who plays the hardest rock, or the most alternative rock....just entertain me! Unfortuately, Lex and Terry didn't entertain me so I quit listening to Zeta in the morning, much like others it seems.

For those about to be armchair program directors...we salute you.

I will miss Zeta because of its personality...(Anybody remember ManMan and BoyBoy and all the other funnies?)

Zeta couldn't find itself musically towards its last days. After many years as a rocker (and Paul and Young Ron), a bad book caused somebody to flip Zeta to a poorly programmed alt. rocker...whether the brief switch to alternative murdered 94.9 or Stern being pulled off of Big (which indirectly caused Paul and Young Ron to move) caused it, I will not know

Will 93 Rock see the same fate? I'm not sure...they are still above Zeta's numbers, and the sales staff must be relieved to sell rock rather than dance

Now, if I had the choice of Zeta in its last days or 93 Rock, I would keep 93 Rock, though Zeta was a kickass station up until about '02...

I'll shut up and head back north now...

Zeta had some great personalities, but it lost its way in terms of musical direction during its last few years. It simply could not decide if it wanted to be an Alternative station, an AOR station, or a "mostly-Alternative-with-some-Classic-Rock-sprinkled-in" station. I think Zeta was at its best when it tilted AOR.

Besides its too-tight playlist, 93 Rock is not going to just run off with the all of Zeta's listeners. They need to build Heritage, add some more personalities, and improve their playlist. The jury is still out of whether they will ultimately be successful.

You guys are right.

Looks like everyone agrees with me, even the guy who stated he disagreed. Toward the end, Zeta did suck. I have not criticized the jocks in any way. We were talking about the music.

I just hope Miami does not lose its only Rock station. Else, you are going have to get used to reggaetton. Sign up for your dance lessons today while they are still cheap.

XM is not even a great option at this time as their Hard Rock Alt. station "Squizz" is trying to be all things to all people. Liquid Metal was pulled from the lineup. It is still available on-line.

It's a shame XM did not create a good AOR with the Metal mixed into that format.

See ya.
