930 KHJ The Spanish years

t.j. said:
Was KHJ 930 in its spanish years always ranchera "La Ranchera 930" since 1990?

No. It began life in the Spanish language as Radio Alegría 930, and remained with that name until around 1998 when it briefly tried all news. The news format was so unsuccessful they changed to La Ranchera.

The format when Liberman bought it was variety, including regional, ballads, etc.

In 1993 I changed the format to grupera (Bukis, Bronco, Temerarios, etc.). That format remained until the news format was put on.

Las Ranchera never played all ranchera music (La Ranchera simply means "the cowgirl") and referred to the playing of Mexican music, which has its biggest appeal in rural areas. It includes ranchera, banda, norteña, etc.
