930 WSEV..anyone there?

Yesterday on the way thru the rain I turned on WSEV to hear about the Mountain Dew Skywalk, and the Wahoo Ziplines, to play a game or two of Duck Dynasty trivia..and to see if Santa Claus had gotten past 2012 yet..and there was what sounded like some girl's voice stuck in a data loop.

Just a constant..."y'all b..y'all b..y'all b..y'all b"

Went to the grocery store, and came out..still there..then the lightning storm started and AM 930 faded...however by the time I got back to the house it was still going...does anyone listen at ALL to this thing?

Really embarrasing

Dang, she must've been in the middle of one of Kent's "remote interviews" with her on the Sky Bridge while he was in the visitor's center, when she developed a nasty stutter. (They were running these "remote interviews" during my last time there). I don't know if I'll ever get around to doing an updated review of the stuff from then, but I did get to record 4 hours of it in the daytime, and 4 hours at night, so I could review the difference. The previous time, they plugged the Sky Bridge (and had "live broadcasts") to death during the day, but there was no mention of it at night. So I wondered if they do things differently at night than the daytime.

Anyway, get-well wishes to the poor gal during this difficult time. :'(

Yes the sky bridge is SO exciting it must make the people stutter. Any chance this whole program is on an Mp3 CD set to repeat? Really that would serve as much as a whole computer setup. Just put a cheap used laptop on and let it rip. MP3 format would net 3 hours of repeating content. Not much more "Milton Crabapple" content than that..and nobody but Sammy and I listen that long.

And just today it was stuck again..no discernible words this time just about 35 minutes of: "...jajajajajajajajaja"

But before that, Kent was ringing the free stuff bell..and talking on the phone with Bob Eubanks who sounded drunk. Then it skipped a little before the interview was over and launched into a rousing chorus of "....jajajajajajajajaja" until I had to stop listening to it.

Jeff,

Judging from the non-responses to your post, you and Sammy may be the ONLY listeners.

Last time I was at Pigeon Forge was 2008 for a family reunion..didn't listen to radio at all. Spent most of the time exploring the area. We stayed at a cabin named The Elegant Elk.

Too bad a station with some legacy has been reduced to an infomercial that stutters.

There was a time I'd loved to have owned WSEV. Obviously someone / anyone can be a better operator. Trouble is what to program. What would you do with it if you owned it?

Yep. Put oldies on there and buy the B97.5 translator at 100.7 to get you on FM. What does a signal like 930 cost these days?

I think the owner of 105.5 leases out 930. 105.5 has a local morning show that seems to do pretty well. So whoever wanted to try to build 930 back up would have to buy it from the current owner for the purpose of competing with him.

A thought occured to me.
If the woman kept saying "Y'all", maybe that was Maw from the Hatfield & McCoy show commercial.

I'm surprised so one has mentioned classic country as a choice for 930. The only other option I see would be ESPN radio, but I know that was tried before. While personally I do love adult standards, I think its time has passed. It could have been a good option 5-10 years ago.

930's back from the stutter and live from the Skybridge ::)

Classic country would be a great choice for 930. Even if WSEV-FM leases the signal out, it wouldn't be any threat to their formats on 105.5 or 106.3.

Even if they ran a classic country format..or played samples of the artists playing in Pigeon Forge, or attempted to localize it without that annoying stupidity that replays over and over again. Milton Crabapples jokes are as useless and old as Little Jimmy Dickens. If it was local, and listenable without spoon-fed California program content it would be better, and probably useful to the various Pigeon Forge businesses if sold as a subscription ad package to them. But the repetition, and lack of attention to this poor station is as bad as the old "King Frog Exit 10 FM" on 92.1 in Adel, Georgia years ago..AND this was on FM with a nice signal stretching for 30 miles either side of the King Frog Outlet. They were well advertised on the Interstate with billboards..try going there today..it's a ghost town with weeds growing up thru what's left of the crumbling shopping area...SO?...If that didn't work, with an FM signal..how can anyone justify the wasted signal on 930 that this has turned into? How can anyone justify paying the electric bill for it?

CAN'T ANYONE DO SOMETHING WITH IT?..I assume it has a good Knoxville signal..wouldn't it do okay there?

Just far enough down Chapman Highway to make it a fringe signal in K-town proper. 930 is Sevier County at best. Still, I've often wondered if 930 might make a good partner to Praise 96.3.

Charlotte Mull passed away yesterday. Prayers for her family.

Jeff,

I remember the 92.1 in Adel, GA. We were heading to Wild Adventures and my wife happened to tune into it somehow.

"What is this?" she asked.

I'd never heard it before, but after anout five minutes ( that seemed like 50) I told her it was just a horribly programmed FM which was wasting the spectrum.

I have been to Pigeon Forge, but didn't even bother taking a radio on that outing.

With classic country replaced by talk on WKVL/850 Knoxville and WLOD/1140 Loudon, I would try it on WSEV if I somehow inherited that station tomorrow and needed to try to make it work.

Kent Ammons is interviewing a funny comedian from the Comedy Barn. He said that if you don't have tears in your eyes from laughing as you leave they have people who will poke you in the eye so you will have tears. God that is funny as hell. This guy is talented. Let's all go to the comedy barn. But before that we all must stop by the Smoky Mountain Welcome Center..for our free Milton Crabapplle CD. Then a quick trip to the Mountain Dew Skybridge, and a run on the Wahoo Ziplines. What a day!

Are there bed bugs in Pigeon Forge?
