933 vs. Q96... Has "The Power Pig" responded yet?

Remember that Channel 933 started as a simulcast of 93.3 WFLZ Tampa Fl, a station once known as "The Power Pig," and infamous for their gorrilla war with competitor Q105 (Q106's Edens owned sister station). WFLZ won that battle.

Knowing that, has 933 responded yet? Will Q96 throw the first stone? I'd LOVE to hear the promos when the mud begins to fly (and it will).

At this point the battle is very different in that the signal deficiency of Q96 leaves it on the sidelines in this game.

I think Q96 will lay low until they finish tweaking the sound, and get a website up. I hope they understand
that this is not El Centro. All the SD stations have websites with live streaming,(even KURS 1040 does too).
Having a website is a priority, and then they need to get the word out to San Diego that there's new kid in
town. How many people in SD know that there's a new Top-40 station in town other than the posters on this
board? I really wish Q96 luck. Big,old Clear Channel needs some competition.I still would get a laugh if CBS
finally woke up and flipped Sophie 103.7 to AMP to try and crush Q96 or 933.Now THAT would be a battle!
It would be like those epic Top-40 battles of the 60's and 70's between KCBQ and KGB.But I doubt CBS would
jump into the Top-40 game here. They're too busy over-promoting Sophie for some reason.

I'm pretty sure Q96 will be the one throwing jokes on 9-3-3. I haven't heard the Clear Channel CHRs fight back with their competitiors... but yeah I would've LOVE to see a CBS vs Clear Channel battle. Well lets see what happens.

Oh you mean Endorsement-FM? Nah, they had a prime opportunity to go Top-40 with all the Amp hype and excitement last summer but now that it's worn off, I think it'd be a poor decision to flip. San Diego now has 3 Top 40 stations (well, 2 1/2 until Q can fix their sound quality ; )

What comes to mind is when FM 94/9 first hit the air, their promos were constantly taking pot shots
at Clear Channel. They were pretty funny! "We're FM 94/9,not cookie-cutter Clear Channel!" I have to
agree, it would be Q96 throwing the darts.

That's a good one! Those billboards are annoying!I've never seen KYXY get over promoted like Sophie,
(but KYXY has been a longtime ratings leader, and Sophie, closer to the bottom).Maybe that should tell
CBS that they should try something else. As for Q96,someone mentioned in another thread that they saw
a jeep cruising around with a Q96 logo on it and a picture of Beyonce. Could someone get a picture of it
and post it? I'd like to see their new logo. Hopefully,Q96 can get some billboards up too.

Its going to be difficult to match up to Channel 933s signal..In Poway,Q96 is taken out completly by a spanish station..I hope Q96 can Beat up Lame Channel... ;D

I've had some problems picking up The Walrus in the Poway area.It seems like there's some dead spots in
and around that area, including places along the I-15. As for Q96 taking on 933, never underestimate the
little guys! ;)

I have the same problem in Poway with The Walrus..Never underestimate the little guys..Can you imagine if THE DSC was on there...?Wishfull thinking...

Equating Channel 933 to "The Power Pig" is a gross over-characterization of the marketing and programming team at KHTS. The Power Pig was Jacor, Randy Michaels, Brian James and many other CHR legends. KHTS punted the closest thing they had to heritage a few months ago in AJ's Playhouse. CC is not about the long term anymore. They do what is working for them today. Why else has 95.7 and 94.1 each shuffled through a bunch of different formats in the last decade? If Z90 and/or Q96 were to overtake KHTS, CC would flip to something else. CC has about 50 "formats in a can" they are piping around the country and testing on their HD-2 signals. They would likely pick one of them up, and "make it local." And you won't ever hear them mention Q96 on the air. They never mentioned Z90 when Z was on their heels in the ratings. But this is a great opportunity for Q96 to point out 933's weaknesses (out of market morning show, no local artists, corporately programmed etc.). Ultimately, Q96 will need to pony up some marketing money if they are serious about a CHR war. CC is running things pretty lean these days, but they have a great signal, and they own the mindshare.

Heck, even if they somehow got Jeff & Jer,Q96 would be dangerous! But as you said, wishful thinking.
But who knows? Anything's possible. ???

I wish Q96 luck too. Already the variety is so much better than 933's (and the other CC CHR's that I'm familiar with). I've always liked the 'all the hits, one station' slogan...glad to hear it here. I could be totally off here, but I think I do remember LA's KIIS acknowledging 97.1 AMP's presence after a while in their sweepers...but again, I could be wrong. So, as someone mentioned, it would be interesting to hear if 933 would do the same.

I'm pretty sure CC wouldn't flip 9-3-3. Like KIIS-FM, they would immediately do something to keep the audience (such as "93 minutes commercial free music"). I've never actually heard a CC CHR flipping formats.
But hey, lets see what Q96 can do. Hopefully they fix everything up and get a site/streaming player.

got to hear 'San Diego's New Q... Q96.1' today at lunch... in Carlsbad (at least on south facing hills). Audio quality seems pretty low at this point (but they're still working on it, so...)

Garrett- I noticed the imaging voice is the same as the (at least in '06 when I departed Lbk) 104-9 The Beat v/os (KBTE). Also, imho, I really don't think KSIQ has much of a chance in San Diego as their signal is SO poor. 96.1 from Riverside County overpowers KSIQ in most of the reigion north of Interstate 8 most of the time... That's a LOT of the market that the new move-in can't and doesn't cover. My best guess (for what that's worth) is that they'll show up in the SD ratings near KIIS and KAMP. (KIIS and KAMP actually sound better (thus far) as far south as La Jolla/UTC.)

However, it's still refreshing to have a new signal in the market... good luck to SD's new Q.

I figure as soon as KSIQ gets established in the San Diego area, they will eventually apply to move to
the big radio roost atop Mt.Soledad, just like KPRI did a while back,or maybe even do a frequency swap
with a Mexican station, just like 95.7 KUPR successfully did with XHTY many years ago.At this point,IMO,
KSIQ needs to establish a presence here. Two things Q96 has an advantage over 933: a better music variety,
and no commercials as of yet.

I think the The Beat's using someone else now. Hard to say, because I can barely listen to KBTE now with its over the top Hip Hop rotation. But I know what voice you're talking about... Wonder if BVG would ever end up as a VO for Q96...

Just to be clear, I was not trying to imply that BVG was doing the VO's at the Beat. He's over at GAP.
Although, he'd be an excellent VO for any station.
