93Q finally gets “freshened up”

Gave KKBQ a listen over the last few days… sounds like things have finally freshened up a bit now that their long-time PD is out of the picture.

Oddly, the imaging still says "The New 93Q", but the jocks are now referring to the station as just “93Q”, rather than the almost 30 year old “new” designation, they seem to have gotten rid of the Lia night show off the bird in favor of a local night guy, and I haven’t heard a single liner card used. Nice improvements… they actually make the station sound like it belongs in a major market in 2022!

They'll update the liners when they get around to it, I'm sure.
 
I noticed the silent hd3 is gone now.
 
While I doubt that continuing to refer to the station as "The New 93Q" had anything to do with the station's slide the past couple of years, there was clearly something that was no longer working as well as it once was. Perhaps the new PD can help the station get back to the level it was throughout the 2010s that it oddly fell from once the pandemic began (going from a tie for 2nd in 18-49 as recently as February 2020 to 9th the next month).
 
The weirdest thing about KKBQ's "The New" branding is that it wasn't something they used back in the 90s. Going through archives of their website, it looks like they introduced that in 2000 for some reason.

Cox added The New 93Q branding when they acquired the station from AM/FM in 2000.
