93X on shuffle...

So when Howard ended this morning 93X went on "shuffle", with no jocks "We decided, since they work so hard, we'd give them the holidays off"

And the music sounds like the normal format, with some Metallica, Beastie Boys, Motley Crue and Police thrown in...

Hmmm....

It would be logical. Stern's gone...Shuffle until after Christmas, then flip. On the other hand they may just be having the Christmas party over on 1960. That's one advantage of computers. The newest PT guy can now go to the party instead of having to hold down the shift.
______________

Will they flip to the all-talk FREE-FM format that CBS Radio is pushing in the major markets or stay with Alternative after Rover?

Anyone checked the website lately?

Just looked at it...it's pretty much the same. I'd guessing they'll be staying with alternative, or something close to it, or else the program director wouldn't be asking for everyone who listens to call in and tell him what they think.

But ya' never know!

93X will NOT change formats!

After Rover was announced as the new morning show @ 93x, this statement from infinity was released....
http://biz.yahoo.com/prnews/051025/nytu131.html?.v=33

WMFS will not be flipping formats. An inside employee at the station told me that there will be minor "tweakes" and "re-branding" to the current format, but no significant change. This will explain the "shuffle" or the "rectro rock" weekends they are having. At this time there will be NO change to the alternative rock programming.

Maybe, but the last time you heard

"Hi, I'm the new GM. We expect no staff or programming changes"

Did you buy that?
______________

Actually, 92.9 city grades (70 dbu) downtown. It's out here in luxurious Germantown where the signal suffers; we're outside the city grade. Collierville is a bit tougher still.

And, while I would never say it is "impossible" to upgrade/move any station if you move enough stations around, upgrading 92.9 would be very, very difficult.

The biggest issue is Holly Springs on 92.7. But, it doesn't stop there -- there are clearance issues with WDTL in Cleveland on 92.9 (not short-spaced now, but would become an issue with an upgrade), WWGN in Alamo, TN on 93.1 (it's a C3), and even KWYN on 92.5 in Wynn (a C2). I suspect the new CP for an LPFM in Collierville on 93.3 would also factor in, although it is likely moveable.

But, as we have seen with WHAL, class As can make an impact when there is good transmitter placement, and the station provides a needed format. 92.9 explaining it's lack of success by blaming its signal would be off the mark.

yeah, i know it's directional away from the southeast (g-town), but if i recall, i couldn't pick it up in front of the new daisy at times. may have been me, my radio, my antenna...anything. could even have been them! lol

you are correct about class-A signals making an impact with the good location of the xmtr - look at Hot with it's flame-throwing 2.75kw. they haven't done too bad (from the swamp!)...i've seen some with much less power (like 168 watts) do pretty good too. (way way up on a mountain out west with a good clear line-of-sight to populations)

just thinkin' out loud about the signal and other stuff. wouldn't want to see any more good radio people bounced because of howard's move as well...
______________
