Since apparently they're reading my posts about Country Legends over on Union (or at least I'm taking credit for it)....
Here's an idea. Input?
Say you’re 94.1 You were thinking about country, but now WMC is going to do it. Assuming you don’t want to split the pie three ways.....
Classic Hits Z94. The Cat left a hole. Fill it. Don't even have to change the calls.
You play selected late 60s, just about everything that charted above 30 in the 70s, and pre-MTV 80s. You position the station simply. “The best music ever made”, or “Part of your life”, etc… You make a real effort to NOT sound too mellow. (My only beef with XM 70s)
You do NOT seque, ever. You do not go into spots without a jock. Jingles return sparingly. The jocks are up, friendly, and never talk over silence.
Here’s the lineup:
AM: Rick Dees voice tracks (assuming he would do it) with a local news / traffic anchor. Bit oriented stuff. Kraddick MIGHT work but I’d rather have Rick.
Midday: Nikki. Younger then most of the music but pro enough to pull it off.
PM: Argo. Ditto above. I might have them change thier air names.
Nights: Rick Earwood. Some music trivia and ‘where are they now’ bits. SHORT bits. When you’re done shut up and play the music.
Rob Grayson would also fit in here anywhere.
Overnights can be jockless or tracked, but should mainly just roll the tunes.
Saturday nights; Tom Kent’s live coast to coast show (he’s a Memphis alum from WAY back)
Sundays. Bring back Solid Gold Sundays with a knowledgeable jock. For that day only go for 60s and very early 70s.
It probably wouldn’t bee much more expensive than the current format, and the Cat had what, a 3 or 4? It would pick up the younger thinking adult audience who think WRVRs just a touch too laid back.
Hmmmmm?
