94.1 in Huntsville

Anyone know if Cumulus is planning on doing anything different with their 94.1 frequency in Huntsville besides simulcasting 93.3 WHRP? I would hope that they are planning to launch a new format, preferably an alternative/rock station better than 95.1 WRTT, which has pretty much turned into a classic rock station.

it could be possible, 93.3 is supposed to be moving to WDRM's tower, within 10 miles of the location of the 94.1 transmitter. It could just be a fill in until they get 93.3 moved (btw, I've noticed the 103.5 translator in Madison is gone)

I noticed the 103.5 translator is off also. The license is still there for it but it's been off the air for a month now. I say they simulcast 92.5 WVNN-FM with it to improve WVNN-FM's coverage in Huntsville. The FM coverage is terrible in Huntsville. As for 94.1, I hear they will be moving Urban A/C over to 94.1 permanently and trying something else on 93.3 when they move it in. I hear either Rock (more current rather than classic rock) or Rhythmic. I personally can't wait to find out what they are gonna do.

You must be on the south or east side of Huntsville, because I haven't had any problems at all with picking up 92.5 on the north and west sides of town. I personally don't think we need any more simulcasts. Between them and all of the translators they are taking up too much room on the radio dial, and I think that's one of the reasons we don't have a lot of variety in this area. I can't see Cumulus broadcasting WVNN on 2 FM stations as well as an AM station. As for the possibility of a modern rock format moving to 93.3, I'm all for it. I would also be thrilled if they carried a morning show such as Lex and Terry as an alternative to the bland Rick and Bubba.

103.5 should stay off.... ( I beleive W293AH 106.5 should go the same way) It may have had something to do with WLAY, or they decided they don't need it, I don't know.
I get good coverage from 92.5, It's listenable even in parts of Fayetteville TN in my car (*remembers the days riding up to Fayetteville through the valley on hwy 110 in the back seat of the car, with "The Valley's WAZK - 92.5 Rock"playing*)

Well I will agree with you there. The simulcasts are out of hand in this area. Always have been. 106.5 is actually a good translator though. It has good coverage through the whole county. Not like all the other 10 watters around that say, for example, WEUP is using. 103.5 has huge coverage for a translator as well but I'm with BamaWOLF, I prefer it off the air also. You can get WLAY on a good skip sometimes and it makes it easier to pick up 103.7 WQEN out of Birmingham more often as well. As for 92.5's reception. I get it ok driving around in some parts but it's worse around downtown and the east and south ends. If they want to make a bigger impact on their numbers using FM, I think they are gonna need a much stronger signal to do it. You can't get 92.5 at all in most buildings in downtown (where it's probably listened to the most in the office buildings concidering the format). It just isn't strong enough to penetrate. We do need more variety here and hopefully when the 94.1/93.3 simulcast splits, we'll get a little more.

When I lived in Decatur, 92.5 covered Decatur just fine and you could pick it up in a car for a few miles in the western part of Huntsville. With 94.1, it covered Huntsville just find but go into Decatur at all and you lost it.

Now, the sttaion I'm surprised at that has such a good signal is WQAH 105.7! I could hear that thing pretty well into most of huntsville...

Oh yeah 92.5's tower is out toward Decatur. You can get it very well out there. But since 94.1 moves a little further south on the mountain and increased power a bit, you can get it a lot better than you used to be able to in Decatur. Not crystal clear or anything, but it is listenable now. You are right WQAH shouldn't even be able to be heard all that well in Huntsville at all. They BARELY put a fringe signal into Huntsville, but it comes in a lot better than you would expect, and pulls numbers in the market!

Oh, and by the way about the 103.5 translator, 93.3 is still IDing this translator at the top of the hour. Why if they have it turned off? That whole situation is wierd.

I've had many nights trying to listen to WVNA-FM while WYTM is off for the night, only to have 105.5 covered with bleedover from 105.7 here just south of the state line.
since the 103.5 translator has been off, I've finally been able to catch WIMZ out of Knoxville, in a short opening a couple of weeks ago.
